    Union Cabinet approves appointment of Second National Judicial Pay Commission on- 10th November 2017

    The Union Cabinet on 10th November 2017 accepted the appointment of 2nd National Judicial Pay Commission for Subordinate Judiciary in the Nation. The cabinet was headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Composition
    The Commission will be lead by Retired Justice J P Venkatrama Reddi, who formerly worked as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
    R Basant, a former Judge of Kerala High Court will serve as the member of the Commission.

    Key Duties
    The Commission would study the current structure of emoluments and conditions of service of Judicial Officers in the States and UTs.
    It will study the work environment and methods and also the variety of wedges and benefits in kind that are available to Judicial Officers extra to their pay.
    It will come up with its own procedures and formulate modalities compulsory for accomplishing the work.

    Main Aim-
    The Commission mainly focuses to evolve the principles that would govern the pay criteria and other emoluments of Judicial Officers related to the Subordinate Judiciary of the country.
    It also focuses at making the pay scales and conditions of service of Judicial Officers similar throughout the Nation.
    The Commission  suggestions will be helping in supporting efficiency in Judicial Administration, optimizing the size of judiciary and eradicating irregularities created in implementation of past recommendations.
    The Commission would be making its suggestions to the state governments within 18 months.
