    Max age of M.D. and CEO in private sector banks fixed at 70 by RBI

    On 9th September 2014, RBI fixed upper age limit 70 years for posts of M.D and CEO in private sector banks which is an important news among banking current affairs. As per Companies Act, 2013 under Section 196(3), no company will be able to have any person as managing director, whole-time director or manager after 70 years of age and also he/she should not be below 21 years of age.

    Though individual bank's boards are free to prescribe lower retirement age as an internal policy.

    Million's of Gmail passwords leaked by Russian hackers

    On 11th September 2014, Russian hackers leaked approx 5 million Gmail account details, It is a concern of security online. Though Google has denied the claim as only 2 percent of passwords are working. This leak is not due to any breach in google servers but it is due to weak passwords and other types of phishing. 

    Note : Though we cannot consider this news as a current affair for exam preparation but it was included to make our users aware to have strong passwords and you should change your passwords time to time and also do not use same password on different domains for your security.

    Disabled persons should get 3 percent quota in all government jobs : Supreme Court

    On 12th September 2014,  The Supreme Court of India ruled that all government jobs should have 3 percent quota for disabled persons.

    Court Bench which was headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha said that in the last 19 years since the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act has passed, disabled persons have not got their due. 

    One rupee cess to be charged by Delhi Government on purchase of cigarette, liquor to promote public transport

    On 12th September 2014, Delhi government decided to charge cess of one rupee on every bottle of liquor and every packet of cigarette to promote public transport. This money will be used to establish an urban transport fund to promote public transport, which will help to tackle pollution levels in the capital.

    As we know that there is president rule in Delhi as of now so meeting was help under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung. 

    Sech-Bandhu Prakalpa project cleared by West Bengal to boost irrigation

    On 12th September 2014, West Bengal cabinet cleared Sech-Bandhu Prakalpa project which is aimed to boost the irrigation. This project is farmer friendly which will offer 46000 pump sets with power connectivity to the farmers.

    This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.

    SBI completed 150 years of its operations in Sri Lanka

    On 13th September 2014, State Bank of India celebrated its big journey of 150 years of its operations in Sri Lanka.

    Since year 1864, State Bank of India, Colombo is operational. Indian assistance to Sri Lanka is in tune of 1.6 billion US dollars and one fourth of this is in form of direct grant assistance while the rest is soft long-term loans for development projects.

    Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) got new chairman Narendra Ambwani

    Among the Important Appointments Current Affairs, On 12th September 2014, Narendra Ambwani was elected as Chairman of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). He succeeded Partha Rakshit. Currently Narendra Ambwani is serving as Director of Agro Tech Foods Ltd. 

    Narendra Ambwani has been member of board of governors for past seven years. 

    Apart from Narendra Ambwani, Benoy Roy Chawdhuri was elected as Vice-Chairman and Shashidhar Sinha was elected as Honorary Treasurer.

    Hi Aastha, We only upload important current affairs daily.. So we advice you to read all news on the site because these are already taken from many other news which are not important for exams.
