    Namo Yuva Rojgar Kendra launched by - Maharashtra Chief Minister

    The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, launched Namo Yuva Rojgar Kendra on 14th August 2017. It is an initiative on the part of the state government in Mumbai to provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth.
    There will be various schemes in this program including farmer’s weekly market, farmer’s mobile market and mother’s tiffin, helping to enable people living in Mumbai to procure fresh and healthy food as well as farm produce directly from the farmers.

    The products will be made available with the help of mobile vans in the city and the information related location of the vans will be made available through an application. Other than launching the new initiative, the Chief Minister also launched the application that would be helping the program.

    Steps to improve sports in India recommended by - Olympic Task Force

    The eight-member Olympic Task Force (OTF) in its report submitted in the second week of August 2017 has emphasised the need to be "athlete-centric, coach-led and system-driven". The extensive report titled as "Preparation of 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games" submitted by them  to the Sports Secretary, Injeti Srinivas. The report aims to focus on three fold formula of being athletic-centric, coach-led and system driven.
    Important Highlights

    • The extensive document is divided into three parts - key takeaways, an executive summary and the main report.
    • It calls for the establishment of an ESC (Empowered Steering Committee) to drive all the initiatives.
    • ESC will be responsible to ensure proper preparation of Tokyo 2020 Olympics having full financial autonomy.
    • The ESC should be supported by a special cell that will be taking care of all the logistical issues for athletes, so they can concentrate on training alone.
    • It calls for the appointment of an internationally acclaimed High-Performance Director who will work with the Empowered Steering Committee.
    • It calls for the cap removal on salary for the Indian coaches and support staff.
    • It also encouraged that former athletes should be encouraged to return to respective sports as coaches, and support staff on deputation.
    • It asks to issue Pradhan Mantri Gold Card for the elite potential athlete and their coaches as an identity of being a 'National asset'.
    • It says that this card will be providing them with facilities like emergency quota for air/train/bus tickets and hassle free access at various places.
