    Author Richard Flanagan from Australia bagged Man Booker Prize of 2014

    Among the Important Prizes Current Affairs, On 14th October 2014, Prestigious 2014 Man Booker Prize bagged by Australian author Richard Flanagan. Richard Flanagan was chosen for this award for his novel "The Narrow Road to the Deep North".

    This was sixth novel by the author.

    CPCL got new Managing Director with appointment of Gautham Roy

    On 14th October 2014, Gautham Roy was appointed as new Managing Director (MD) of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) by Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. Earlier he was serving as Executive Director in Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.

    Gautham Roy will be succeeding A S Basu as got retired on 31st May 2014.

    On 15th October 2014, Global Handwashing Day was observed across the globe which was aimed to motivate and mobilize millions around the world to wash their hands with soap to prevent many diseases.

    On 14th October 2014, Book entitled "Untold Story of the Indian Public Sector" authored by Dr. U.D. Choubey was released by Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari. 

    This book revolves around the various aspects of working in Public Sectors and provides a clear presentation of overall environment and workings of the Public Sector experienced by the author Dr. U. D. Choubey.

    KayPay - A facebook based funds transfer platform launched by Kotak Mahindra Bank

    On 13th October 2014, Kotak Mahindra Bank launched KayPay product for facebook users to send money to each other. As per company users can send funds to their friends by choosing recipients on social site facebook.

    KayPay has been built on top of the mobile based Immediate Payment System (IMPS) that was launched by the National Payment Corporation of India. 

    As per bank it is fully secured even if facebook account get compromised as it is uses two factor authentication to complete a transaction and it also has an expiry time for a transaction.
