    London Classic Chess title clinched by Viswanathan Anand

    Among the Important Sports Current Affairs On 15th December 2014, Noted chess player of India Viswanathan Anand won his first London Classic Chess title. To bag this title Anand defeated British Grandmaster Michael Adams in the fifth and final round.

    Dineshwar Sharma appointed as Director of Intelligence Bureau

    Dineshwar Sharma was appointed as Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) by the Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 December 2014. He will take charge of the office from 1 January 2015 and will have two-year tenure. 

    Dineshwar Sharma is a senior IPS officer of 1979 batch from Kerala cadre and earlier he was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.

    Syed Asif Ibrahim Ibrahim was an IPS of Madhya Pradesh cadre and was the first Muslim to be appointed as Director of IB.

    14th Finance Commission headed by YV Reddy submitted its report to President

    On 15th December 2014, Headed by former RBI Governor YV Reddy 14th Finance Commission submitted its report to President of India. Secretary of the Finance Commission A N Jha submitted this report to Secretary to the President of India Omita Paul.

    This report will serve as input in the preparation of the Union Budget 2015-16. 

    14th Finance Commission was appointed on 2nd January 2013 and was asked to submit its report by 31 October 2014 but then later on time was extended till 31st December 2014.

    US Senate confirmed Vivek Hallegere Murthy as 19th Surgeon General of America

    On 15th December 2014, Indian-American physician Mr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy was confirmed by US Senate as the 19th Surgeon General of America, so now he will be serving as US top spokesperson on public health issues. Also important to mention here that he is the first Indian-American and also the youngest to hold this post.

    Vivek Hallegere Murthy is also a co-founder and president of Doctors for America organization since 2009.

    Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe re-elected

    Among the Important International Current Affairs On 14th December 2014, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe was re-elected for another term as Japan's ruling coalition (Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito) won two thirds majority in the Snap elections held for the Lower House of Bicameral legislature.

    In Snap elections Shinzo Abe's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) party won 290 seats and its coalition partner Komeito party won 35 seats, so coalition got 325 seats all together out of 475 seat of Lower House.
