    LIC bought Rs. 300 cr worth of shares in which company - Infosys

    On 19th April 2015, Among the Important National Current Affairs, LIC which is a state owned life insurer has increased its stake in Infosys to 4.81 percent. LIC purchased shares worth over Rs 300 crores in the January-March quarter.

    Taking into account the current market value of Infosys shares, the 0.12 percentage point hike in LIC's holding in the company would be worth about Rs 317 crore.

    Who took over as new CEC - Nasim Zaidi

    Among the Important Appointments Current Affairs, On 19th April 2015, Nasim Zaidi assumed charge as the 20th Chief Election Commissioner of India. He succeeded H.S. Bramha who retired on 18th April 2015 after completing his term.

    After taking the charge he said, "I feel privileged and honoured that I have been given this responsibility to lead one of the finest institutions that the Indian Constitution has provided. I am conscious of the onerous task in hand".

    About Nasim Zaidi : 

    Full name of Nasim Zaidi is Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi. He is a retired IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre of 1976 batch. Dr. Zaidi has served as the Permanent Representative of India on the Council of ICAO from November 2005 to October 2008. He has served as the Director General of Civil Aviation. He retired from IAS as Secretary to the Government of India in Ministry of Civil Aviation on 31 July 2012.

    Who has been elected as new CPI(M) general secretary - Sitaram Yechury

    Among the Important Political Current Affairs, On 19th April 2015, Mr. Sitaram Yechury who is also a Rajya Sabha member was elected as the next general secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist). Thus he became the fifth general secretary of CPI (M) which is a 50 year old party.

    During this election Veteran leaders V.S. Achuthanandan, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Nirupam Sen were dropped from the Central Committee. 

    As far as his political start is concerned, Yechury joined the Students Federation of India (SFI) in 1974 then after a year he joined Communist Party of India (Marxist).

    International Paralympic Committee derecognises - Paralympic Committee of India

     After the news of shoddy treatment to athletes during the National Para-Athletics Championships held in Ghaziabad from March 20 to 22, 2015, The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has suspended the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) for indefinite period. Earlier also Paralympic Committee of India has been suspended by International Paralympic Committee.

    But someone who are worst affected by this decision are the players who also had to adjust in bad facilities and also will not able to participate in any event now

    Following the ban, the Paralympic Committee of India has been barred from participating in any event.

    Also important to mention here that last week the president of PCI Rajesh Tomar was also suspended for mismanaging facilites in Ghaziabad event. Union ministry has also issued a show cause notice to PCI.
