    Merger of 5 associate banks, BMB with itself approved by - SBI Board

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 18th August 2016 The State Bank of India (SBI) board approved merger of its five associate banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) with itself.

    However, apart from the BMB, here are the lists of those 5 associate banks that will be merged with the SBI -

    • State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur

    • State Bank of Hyderabad

    • State Bank of Mysore

    • State Bank of Patiala

    • State Bank of Travancore

    Name the World’s biggest aircraft which makes maiden voyage in Britain - Airlander 10

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 17th August 2016 the world's largest airship, named as Airlander 10, flew for the first time over London's Cardington airfield.

    Hence, this flight of the 92-metre ship, nicknamed the Flying Bum for its shape, lasted for about 30 minutes.

    Please Note: The aircraft completed a series of flight manoeuvres and finally landed safely.

    TARANG, e-Trans & DEEP to enhance transparency in power sector launched by - Union Government

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 17th August 2016, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal inaugurated TARANG Mobile App, e-Trans and DEEP e-bidding web portals in New Delhi.

    However, they were developed by Rural Electrification Corporation Transmission Projects Company Limited (RECTPCL), a subsidiary of REC Ltd.

    Note: The initiatives were launched keeping in line with the Digital India initiative. The primarily seek to enhance transparency in power sector.

    Court of Arbitration for Sport suspends which wrestler for four years - Narsingh Yadav

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 18th August 2016 the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which is situated in Lausanne, Switzerland has banned wrestler Narsingh Yadav for almost four years following an appeal by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

    From 25th June 2016, the CAS also ruled to disqualify all the competitive results obtained by Narsingh. Here, the CAS panel further stated that there was no evidence to accept his claim that his food/drink was spiked.

    Bad news for Yadav, as his suspension begins immediately, so he will not be able to participate at the Rio 2016 Olympics. He was scheduled to commence his campaign on 19 August 2016 against Zelimkhan Khadjiev of France in the 74 category.

    Which state launched India’s first Crime Criminal Tracking Network System – Maharashtra

    The Maharashtra Government has taken one step forward and became first state in the country to launch India’s first comprehensive ‘Crime Criminal Tracking Network System’ (CCTNS) in Mumbai. 

    However, it was launched through the operationalisation of 34 cyber laboratories across the state in order to combat growing cybercrimes.

    Do You Know – 

    • Crime Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) has been developed by Pune based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). 

    • Here, all police stations in the state will be linked with one another for sharing information about crimes in their respective jurisdictions.
