    Who has been appointed as CBI Director – Alok Kumar Verma

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 19th January 2017 the Appointments  Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Alok Kumar Verma as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation i.e. CBI.   

    However, his appointed will be for only a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of his office.

    Well, Verma succeeded Anil Sinha who has been retired from his office on 2nd December, 2016. 

    CEPI formally launched at - WEF, Davos

    Among Important International Current Affairs, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) was officially launched at World Economic Forum (WEF) Davos after it received $460-million to develop vaccines against 3 emerging highly-contagious and fatal diseases. 

    However, these three diseases are Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-coronavirus, Lassa fever, and Nipah virus.  

    Here, CEPI will use this fund to contain outbreaks these 3 diseases before they become global health emergencies.

    According to UNWESP report India economy projected to grow by 7.7% in - FY 2017

    Among Important National Current Affairs, according to the United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2017 report, India’s economy is projected to grow by 7.7% in fiscal 2017 and 7.6% in 2018.

    However, India will remain the fastest growing large developing economy due to its strong private consumption and gradual introduction of significant domestic reforms. 

    Also, the UN flagship report has not mention of the withdrawal of the high-denomination Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 currency notes nor its impact on the country’s economic growth.

    Physicists create a new form of – Hydrogen

    Among Important International Current Affairs, Physicists from Austria have created a new form of Hydrogen, which is negatively charged hydrogen clusters. 

    However, it is a previously unseen form of hydrogen. From the last forty years, existence of hydrogen in ion clusters was known and is positively-charged clusters have already exists.
