    Which Indian hockey player recently passes away - Mohammed Shahid

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Indian hockey player Mohammed Shahid passed away at the age of 56, due to multiple organ failure in Gurugram, Haryana. 

    At the 1980 Moscow Olympics, Mohammed Shahid was a member of the V Baskaran-led Indian team that won a Gold medal. 

    Know About Mohammed Shahid – 

    • Mohammed Shahid, who belongs to Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), had made his first appearance in 1979, for India at international level in the junior team at the Junior World Cup held in France. 

    • Mohammed Shahid was considered one of India’s greatest hockey players. He was also known for his dribbling skills.

    Which country to conduct world’s first Zika vaccine test on humans – Canada

    Among Important International Current Affairs, Researchers from Laval University based in Quebec City, Canada is all set to conduct the world’s first Zika vaccine test on humans. They have become the first international researchers’ team in the world to complete all of the steps in the regulatory process for the test. 

    By the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Health Canada, the development of the Zika vaccine has been authorized. However, till now vaccines have been tested on mice only. 

    However, according to WHO (World Health Organization), more than a dozen pharmaceutical companies, including France’s Sanofi and India’s Bharat Biotech are working on developing a Zika vaccine.

    Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2012 passed by - Rajya Sabha 

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Rajya Sabha finally passed Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2012. 

    This Bill is meant to amend the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 to widen the scope of the law against child labour and stricter punishments for violations.

    Do You Know – 

    • Prohibition of employment of children below 14 years in all occupations or processes except where child helps his family. 

    • Addition of a new category of persons called “adolescent”. They are person between 14 and 18 years of age. 

    Chennai's Advay Ramesh wins which award from Asia - Google Community Impact Award

    On 19th July 2016, Advay Ramesh who is a class 10 student from Chennai won the prestigious Google Community Impact Award from Asia, a theme based award part of Google Science Fair 2016.

    Ramesh got this award for creating a device that enhances fishermen's safety and productivity.

    Ramesh's FishErmen Lifeline Terminal (FELT) hand-held terminal uses the Standard Position Services (SPS), which is known to be an open service without encryption provided by the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, to enhance fishermen's safety and productivity at the sea.

    Which state government to celebrate bicentenary of 1817 Paika revolt – Odisha

    On 19th July 2016, Odisha Government finally decided to celebrate the bicentenary (200 years) of the 1817 Paika revolt against the British Empire in 2016.

    For this purpose, the state Odisha will organise a series of events in Odisha and at national level.

    This decision was taken at a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Ashok Chandra Panda.
