    What was the theme of International Day of Forests - Forests and Climate Change

    Among the important International Curent Affairs, On 21st March 2015, International Day of Forests was observed with the theme Forests and Climate Change. The theme features forest-based solutions to address climate change diminution and adaptation, and mainly forests and sustainable development.

    The day provides a platform to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and of trees. The day is also used to commune the vital role forests play in poverty eradication, environmental sustainability and food security.

    On 28th November 2012, 21st March was established as the International Day of Forests by resolution A/RES/67/200 of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). International Day of Forests was observed for the first time on 21 March 2013.

    He scored 237 off 163 balls. His 200 came off just 152 deliveries that included 21 fours and eight sixes. He also became the second cricketer after Chris Gayle of West Indies to score a double century in Cricket World Cup history.On 24th February 2015, Chris Gayle had scored 215 runs off 147-balls against Zimbabwe.

    Besides, he also became the first New Zealand batsman to reach the milestone of scoring double hundred in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Overall, Guptill is the fifth batsmen in the world to score a double century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) history and this was the sixth double hundred scored in ODI history. The other four batsmen include Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma (two double centuries) and Chris Gayle.

    Where did the 1st Counter-Terrorism Conference 2015 held - Jaipur

    Among the important National Curent Affairs, From 19th March 2015 to 21st March 2015, The 1st Counter-Terrorism Conference 2015 was held in Jaipur. It was organised by Sardar Patel University of Police Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur in association with the India Foundation at Jaipur in Rajasthan. Integrated Approach to Counter-Terrorism was the central theme of the Conference.

    The focus of the deliberations was on exploring the contours of 21st century terrorism and sharing the Counter-Terrorism expertise. Few of the sub-themes on which the conference focused include 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack, New Caliphate in West Asia, Cyber and Space terrorism, Chemical, Biological, Talibanisation of Af-Pak region, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Terrorism and Maritime Terrorism and Piracy.

    The Conference acted as a global platform for strategic thinkers, eminent scholars, field experts and policy makers engaged in counter-terrorism activity from different governments, agencies, think tanks and academic and research institutions from all over the parts of the world.

    Among the important appointments, On 20th March 2015, Renault Nissan Automotive India (RNAIPL) appointed Colin Macdonald as Managing Director (MD). He will take the charge from 1st April 2015. He will be accountable for the operations of the Renault-Nissan Alliance factory at Oragadam, in Chennai. The plant transports cars to more than a hundred countries.

    Currently, he is working as Deputy Managing Director of RNAIPL. He started his career at Nissan in the Sunderland plant in 1991. The plant has a potential annual capacity of 480000 units and exports to more than a hundred regions and countries. Nissan is the third biggest transporter of cars from India.

    Among the important Sports Curent Affairs, On 22nd March 2015, Novak Djokovic of Serbia won his fourth Indian Wells Open Tennis Men’s Singles title. In the final collision, Djokovic defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland.

    This win at Indian Wells Open was the 50th tour-level title for Djokovic. With this title in Indian Wells, he became the 12th player in the Open Era to win 50 titles, striking his coach, Boris Becker.

    On the other hand, Simona Halep of Romania defeated former Jelena Jankovic of Serbia to win her the Indian Wells Open Tennis Women’s Singles title. In 2015, Halep is the first player to win three WTA titles. Prior to this, she had won Shenzhen Open and Dubai Open in 2015.

    Name the founding father of Singapore who has passed away - Lee Kuan Yew

    On 23rd March 2015, Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father and statesman of Singapore died at the Singapore General Hospital at the age of 91. Yew, who in 1959 became the first Prime Minister of Singapore, was widely known as the founding father of modern Singapore and also the Architect of Modern Singapore. He altered Singapore from a small port city and a malaria-infested backwater to a wealthy global hub.

    Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong declared a period of National Mourning from 23rd March to 29th March 2015.

    WWD is celebrated every year to make a difference for the members of the global population who suffer from water allied issues. It’s a day to devise for how we manage water in the future.

    In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as the first World Water Day. This day was suggested in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Brazil.

    Further in 2003, UN-Water, the United Nations inter-agency coordination mechanism for all freshwater and sanitation allied matters, was formalised by the United Nations High Level Committee on Programmes.
