    Padma Awards 2017 announced by - Union Ministry of Home Affairs

    On 25th January 2017, Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced the winners of Pdma Awards 2017, as this list comprised of 7 Padma Vibhushan, 7 Padma Bhushan and 75 Padma Shri Awardees.

    Following is the list of Vibhushan Awardees :

     

    K J Yesudas in field of Art-Music from State Kerala

    Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev in the field of Spiritualism from state Tamil Nadu

    Sharad Pawar in the field of Public Affairs from state Maharashtra

    Murli Manohar Joshi in the field of Public Affairs from state Uttar Pradesh

    Prof. Udipi Ramachandra Rao in the field of Science & Engineering from state Karnataka

    Late Sunder Lal Patwa (Posthumous) in the field of Public Affairs from state Madhya Pradesh

    Late PA Sangma (Posthumous) in the field of Public Affairs from state Meghalaya

    Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian Awards of India. The awards are conferred in three categories namely - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

    Name of Meghalaya Governor who resigned from post - V Shanmuganathan

    On 27th January 2017, Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan resigned from his position after controversy that was triggered against him, accusing him of sexual misconduct.

    V Shanmuganathan was sworn in as Meghalaya Governor in May 2015 and also he was given the additional charge of Governor of Arunachal Pradesh after J P Rajkhowa was removed from the position.

    Name of first ever Military Communications Satellite launched by Japan - Kirameki-2

    Among International Current Affairs, On 24th January 2017, Japan launched its first military communications satellite Kirameki-2 to boost the broadband capacity of its armed forces with an aim to reinforce its presence at the southern edge of the East China Sea.

    Mistubishi H-IIA rocket was used to launch this satellite from southern-most islands of Japan.
