    Ramon Magsaysay Award 2016 won by - Bezwada Wilson, Thodur Madabusi Krishna

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 26th July 2016 two Indians including social activist Bezwada Wilson and musician Thodur Madabusi (TM) Krishna won the most prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2016.

    Bezwada Wilson who is the National Convener of the Safai Karmachari Andolan (SKA) was recognized for asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity. While TM Krishna, who is a Carnatic music vocalist, was recognized for ensuring social inclusiveness in culture. 

    Including Bezwada Wilson, Thodur Madabusi Krishna the other four awardees are Conchita Carpio Morales (Philippines), Dompet Dhuafa (Indonesia), Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (Japan), Vientiane Rescue (Laos).

    India's first Humboldt Penguins reach Mumbai’s - Byculla Zoo

    On 26th July 2016, Mumbai’s Byculla Zoo, which is also known as Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, brought in eight Humboldt penguins from Soul, South Korea.

    This step has, however, not gone down well with wildlife experts who also termed it as wasteful and unnecessary.

    In the next three to four months, the eight Humboldt penguins, three males and five females, will be open for public view.

    • Humboldt Penguins have been kept in a 1700 sq ft air conditioning specially designed chamber. 

    • Here, they will be given special attention and consideration to understand their biological needs and behavioural patterns also.

    East Bengal to honour which athlete with Bharat Gaurav Award - Milkha Singh

    Milkha_Singh Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 26th July 2016 Kolkata’s football club East Bengal declared that the 2016 Bharat Gaurav Award, which is also known as Pride of India Award, will be conferred on legendary athlete Milkha Singh.

    On the occasion of East Bengal Foundation Day, which is going to be celebrated on 1st August 2016, Milkha Singh will be awarded with this prestigious award. Along with the award, a cheque of 2 lakh rupees will also be presented to athlete.

    Here also special awards along with a cash prize of 1 lakh rupees each will be given to East Bengal players Shyam Thapa and Shyamal Ghosh.

    Which two countries joint expedition discovers natural gas in Indian Ocean - India-US

    Among Important International Current Affairs, two countries joint expeditions, which is by India and the United States have discovered large and highly enriched accumulations of natural gas hydrate (an icy form of the fuel) in Indian Ocean. 

    This huge discovery was made by the Union Oil Ministry and the US Geological Survey in the Bay of Bengal. 

    However, it was the result of the most comprehensive gas hydrate field venture in the world to date that comprised of scientists from India, Japan and the US.

    India's which Government Institutions has been ranked World's 12th Best Government Institute – CSIR

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The 2016 report of the prestigious Scimago Institutions Rankings in the fourth week of July 2016 has been ranked the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as the 12th Best Government Institutions in the world.

    In the year 2016, the ranking of the premier institute jumped to 12th spot after being at 14th spot for three consecutive years. However, the overall global ranking of CSIR also improved from 110 to 99th position.

    Now, CSIR is the only Indian organization to have found a place among the top 100 global institutions.
