    Union Government launches what to empower farmers - Biotech-KISAN & Cattle Genomics

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Ministry of Science and Technology has launched two new schemes Biotech-KISAN and Cattle Genomics in order to apply science to boost rural economy. 

    However, the intent of these programmes is to form a network to farmers directly with the scientists and experts. Thus they seek to empower farmers, especially women farmers.

    Do You Know – 

    • The main purpose of these two schemes is to connect farmers, scientist and science institution across country. 

    • However under it, fellowship will be given to women farmers for training and education in farm practice.

    On 27th October which day is observed globally - World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 27th October 2016 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage was observed across the world.

    However, the theme for the day was ‘It's Your Story - Don't Lose It.’

    Also The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage aims to raise general awareness of the need for urgent measures to be taken to safeguard audiovisual document. 

    Here, it also focuses on acknowledging the importance of audiovisual documents as an integral part of national identity.

    Which two countries ink three agreements including avoidance of double taxation - India, New Zealand

    Among Important National Current Affairs, India and New Zealand have signed together three agreements in the areas of double taxation avoidance (DTA), sports and food security to carry forward the ties between both sides. 

    However, these agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his New Zealand counterpart John Key after the delegation-level talks in New Delhi. 

    Also both the countries have reached an understanding on further cooperation on cyber security, counter-terrorism, customs, education and food safety.

    World Economic Forum released which report - Global Gender Gap Report 2016

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 25th October 2016 The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released the Global Gender Gap Report 2016. 

    However, the 2016 report provides Gender Gap scores for 144 countries compared to 145 countries included in 2015 report.

    Here, more than a decade of data has revealed that progress is still too slow for realizing the full potential of one half of humanity within our lifetimes.

    Union Government constitutes Munialappa Committee to monitor - Bird Flu Situation

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Agricultural Ministry has constituted a High-Level Committee to monitor the bird flu situation and also help state governments to take steps to contain the disease. 

    However, the High-Level Committee will be headed by Joint Commissioner in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries (DADF) Munialappa.

    Who has been appointed as a Director of Enforcement Directorate - Karnal Singh

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 26th October 2016 Senior IPS officer Karnal Singh has been appointed as the Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED).

    However, The Appointments Committee of Cabinet approved the appointment of Singh till 31 August 2017, which is the date of his superannuation.

    Also Singh was already holding the post as additional charge for over a year. His regular posting was Special Director, ED, for the northern region.

    Justice Reddy committee submits report on – OROP

    On 26th October 2016, the one-man judicial committee on One Rank One Pension (OROP) has submitted its report to the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

    However, the committee was appointed under the Chairmanship of Justice L Narasimha Reddy, retired Chief Justice of Patna High Court to look into the anomalies, if any, arising out of implementation of OROP.

    Also the Union Government have appointed L Narasimha Reddy to head Judicial Committee on OROP
