NASA's Juno Mission reveals - Jupiter's deep secrets

The first science results from Nasa's Juno Mission were revealed on 25th May 2017 by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Juno captured the images which portray the largest planet in the Solar System, Jupiter as a complex, gigantic, turbulent world with Earth-sized polar cyclones travelling deep into the heart of the gas giant.

    More Details

    • The images show that both of Jupiter's poles are covered in Earth-sized swirling storms that are heavily clustered and rubbing together.
    • Another finding came from Juno’s Microwave Radiometer (MWR) data that indicates that Jupiter’s iconic belts and zones are mysterious as the belt near the equator is going downwards, while the belts and zones at other latitudes seem to evolve to other structures.
    • The MWR data suggests that the ammonia is quite variable and continues to raise as far down as we can see with MWR, which is a few hundred miles.
    • Jupiter's magnetosphere measurements from Juno’s MAG (Magnetometer Investigation) show that
    • Jupiter’s magnetic field is even way stronger than expected and more irregular in shape.
    • The magnetic field greatly exceeded expectations at 7.766 Gauss which is about 10 times stronger than the strongest magnetic field found on Earth as per the MAG Data.
    • The Process seems to work different at Jupiter than at Earth as per Juno's observations.

Global Warming Affects - Sea level rising three times as quickly as they were 25 years ago

Rise in water level at the coastal region is the reason to worry in the recent years. A new study from European researchers has claimed that sea levels are rising three times as quickly as they were 25 years ago. The report says that sea level rise will place hundreds of millions lives living in the coastal areas at risk. Sönke Dangendorf, an Oceanographer with the University of Siegen charted the spikes in sea levels over the 20th century until 2012.Journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

    published this report.

Fifth among top 10 global landmarks is India's - Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal has become the only Indian monument which is ranked 5th in Global landmarks. First rank was grabbed by the world's largest religious monument- Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

    Interesting Points

    • Second rank is given to Sheikh Zayad Grand Mosque Center in Abu Dhabi While Spain’s Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba is at the 3rd and St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City is at the 4th rank.
