Who was appointed as the new Foreign Secretary - Subrahmanyam Jaishankar

Among the Important Appointments, On 28th January 2015, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of Ministry of External  Affairs. He will be replacing existing Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh whose service period was decreased with immediate  effect.

About Subrahmanyam Jaishankar :

• He was born on 9th January 1955.
• He is Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1977 batch.
• He had also served as India’s Ambassador to United States.

Which Australian Golfer has passed away - Kelvin David George Nagle

On 29th January 2015, Australian Golfer Kelvin David George Nagle. He was 94 years of age.

About Kelvin David George Nagle :

• He was born on 21st December 1920.
• He had won the British Open (the Open Championship) at St. Andrews in 1960.
• He had a record of conquering a tournament every year from 1949 to 1975.
• He was initiated into the World Golf Hall of Fame in November 2007. 

What big step has been taken in order to preserve and promote the jute sector - packaging of food-grains and sugar in Jute material

On 28th January 2015, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has made packaging of food-grains and sugar in  Jute material mandatory for the Jute Year 2014-15. This decision will enhance the jute sector which generates a lot of  livelihoods. CCEA also has agreed for providing financial support to the Jute Corporation of India (JCI).

Who was appointed as CEO of McDonald Corporation - Steve Easterbrook

On 28th January 2015, Steve Easterbrook was named as new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDonald's Corporation. This appointment will be effective from 1st March 2015.

Steve Easterbrook will succeed Don Thompson who decided to retire as President and Chief Executive Officer of McDonald's. He was serving in the company since 25 years. At the time of appointment Steve Easterbrook is serving as Chief Brand Officer of the company.

Among the Important International Current Affairs, On 28th January 2015, The former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka Shirani Bandaranayake was reinstated by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on a special cabinet approval. Because of this appointment of Mohan Peiris as Chief Justice of Sri Lanka by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was cancelled and was termed as illegal appointment.

Which country will host ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2016 - India

On 29th January 2015, International Cricket Council (ICC) in its board meeting in Dubai chaired by N Srinivasan in the presence of all the full-member and associate representatives announced that India will host the Twenty20 World Cup in 2016.

It is scheduled to be held in 11th March 2016 to 3rd April 2016.
