    NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captured three largest moons of which Planet - Jupiter

    On 24th January 2015, three largest moons of Jupiter namely Europa, Callisto, and Io were captured by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. This event is a rare as it occurs once or twice in a decade. It takes 2 to 17 days to these three Galilean moons to complete orbits around Jupiter.

    Where was the 15th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit was held - New Delhi

    On 5th February 2015, 15th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit was held in New Delhi at Taj Palace Hotel. It was a three day summit. The summit was on the theme of Sustainable Development Goals and Dealing with Climate Change and was organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). In the summit issues like generating finances for projects focusing on Sustainable Development, educating the youth about sustainable development and need for mitigation in Energy supply sector were discussed.

    Union Government has approved a proposal to increase the authorised Share Capital of the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) with how much - 3000 crore rupees from 1500 crore

    On 10th February 2015, increment of authorised Share Capital of the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) from 1500 crore to 3000 crore has been approved by Union Government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this decision in a Union Cabinet meeting. Beside this the Cabinet has also gave approval to revise the shareholding pattern to 73:26:1 from 65:26:9 among the Centre, individuals/institutions and States/Union Territories. For the year 2014-15 the target of NMDFC is to cover 97000 beneficiaries.

    It is a Central Sector Public Enterprise (CPSE) in the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs and was established as a non-profit making company under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 on 30 September 1994.

    What does the study revealed about the Earth's inner core - Earth's inner core has an inner core of its own

    On 9th February 2015, a study revealed that the Earth's inner core has an inner core of its own and have surprising properties that can reveal information about the Earth. a research team led by Xiaodong Song at the University of Illinois and colleagues at Nanjing University in China conducted this study.

    Findings of the Study

    • Seismic waves passing through the very centre of the earth showed interference very different from those through the rest of the core.
    • A distinct inner-inner core is about half the diameter of the whole inner core.
    • The iron crystals in the outer layer of the inner core are aligned in north-south direction. However, the iron crystals point roughly east-west in the inner-inner core.
    • Iron crystals in the inner-inner core behave differently from their counterparts in the outer-inner core.

    On 10th February 2015, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headed by Arvind Kejriwal won the Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections 2015. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 67 seats in the house of 70 seats and has become the first party in Delhi to win 67 seats in the history. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 3 seats with vote share of 32.3% whereas the other parties including Indian National Congress (INC), Indian National Lok Dal and Independents, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) did not win any seat.

    Facebook tied up with which company to provide free Internet access to people : Reliance Communications Ltd

    On 10th February 2015, Reliance Communications Limited tied up with Facebook to offer free internet access to people in India, this was done under Facebook project Internet.org.

    This is aimed to get more and more internet inclusion and encourage more Indians to go online. Under this initiative users will be provided access to popular websites with zero data charge of internet access across both 2g and 3g networks.

    Though in the first phase this service will be available in seven circles of RCOM which includes Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chennai and Kerala. In second phase this service will be launched in pan India which is scheduled by May 2015.
