    Who has been elected as Vice-Chairman on BIS Board - Dr Raghuram Rajan

    Among the important appointments, On 9th November 2015, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Dr Raghuram Rajan was elected as the Vice-Chairman on the Board of Directors of BIS.

    He is the first Indian to be elected to this position in the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

    About Bank for International Settlements

    • BIS is the world's oldest international financial organisation established on 17th May 1930.
    • Its 60 member central banks depicts countries all over the world that make up about 95 % of world GDP.

    Terrorist attack in - Paris

    On 13th November 2015, six locations around Paris were attacked by the terrorists killing around 160 civilians.

    Maximum number of deaths were noticed in the Bataclan concert venue. Around 80000 football fans in the Stade de France came under the deadliest attacks while they were watching a friendly match between Germany and France.

    France President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency soon after the attack. He was also present at the spot during the attack.

    The emergency orders enables the authorities to close public places and impose curfews and restrictions on the movement of traffic and people.

    This was the deadliest violence in France after World War II and the after the “Charlie Hebdo Shooting in 2015 ”.

    2015 Valletta Summit on Migration concluded

    On 12th November 2015, The 2015 Valletta Summit on Migration was concluded which was held for two days at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, Malta.

    65 heads of governments and policy makers from Europe and Africa, apart from officials from the UN and various organizations of the European Union attended the summit.

    The Action Plan is built around five priority domains whhich are as follows :

    • Protection and asylum
    • Prevention of and fight against irregular migration, migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings
    • Development benefits of migration and addressing root causes of irregular migration and forced displacement
    • Legal migration and mobility
    • Return, readmission and reintegration
