    Protein-enriched rice variety developed by - IGKV Chattisgarh 

    Among Important National Current Affairs, researchers from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Chattisgarh have finally developed a protein-enriched rice variety. 

    However, the new developed rice variety has over 10% protein content, which is also 3% more than what is found in any popular variety and has 30 PPM (parts per million) zinc content.

    Milan confers honorary citizenship on - Dalai Lama

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 20th October 2016 the Milan city council bestowed honorary citizenship on the Dalai Lama. 

    However, now China has strongly opposed another award given to him.

    Lamberto Bertole, Chairman of the Council of Milan has honoured the Dalai Lama with the Milan Honorary Citizenship award at a ceremony held at the Arcimboldi Theatre in Milan, Italy.

    Who warns India against breaching Indus Water Treaty – Pakistan

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Pakistan has warned India that it will take appropriate action if India violates the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) unilaterally. 

    However, it also mentioned that it was closely monitoring the situation after India decided to suspend all talks with Pakistan on IWT in the wake of the Uri attack.

    Please Note – 

    • Around 65% of the Pakistan’s geographical area, including the entire Pakistan’s Punjab province is part of Indus basin. 

    • Also the water of Indus River is a lifeline of Pakistan, which is a source of irrigation, hydro power and drinking water for millions of Pakistanis. If the water from rivers is stopped by India it can surely cut lifeline of Pakistan.

    Who has been elected as a President of International Gymnastics Federation - Japan's Morinari Watanabe

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 20th October 2016 Japan's Morinari Watanabe was elected the new President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

    However, watanabe emerged victorious in the election after defeating rival candidate Georges Guelzec of France by a huge margin in a vote at the governing body's Congress.

    Also Watanabe, who is the secretary-general of Japan Gymnastics Association (JGA), has won 100 of the 119 votes. Guelzec, the head of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG), received a mere 19 votes.

    After this, Watanabe became the ninth President of the FIG since it was established in 1881. He will succeed Bruno Grandi, who had held the position for 20 years.

    Watanabe is due to officially take charge on 1 January 2016.

    The Sleepwalker's Dream has been released, which is authored by - Dhrubajyoti Borah 

    Among Important National Current Affairs, the book titled as The Sleepwalker's Dream authored by Dhrubajyoti Borah, has been released. 

    This book which is authored by Borah, is a President of Asam Sahitya Sabha, who narrates the journey of a group of militants towards an elusive freedom and an uncertain future.

    However, The Sleepwalker's Dream is about June, Ron and several other rebels fleeing their hideout in Bhutan after an army attack. With them is their injured, unconscious leader, who is unlikely to survive the ordeal of their journey towards the Assam border.
