    Summer Olympics 2016 concluded at - Rio de Janeiro

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 21st August 2016 the Summer Olympics finally concluded at ceremony which is held at the Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

    Here, more than 11000 athletes from 207 National Olympic Committees, including first time entrants Kosovo, South Sudan and the Refugee Olympic Team, have taken part in the games.

    Please Note: The Summer Olympic game featured 28 Olympic sports, including rugby sevens and golf, which were added to the Olympic programme in 2009.

    Also, the United States topped the medal table for the fifth time in the past six Summer Olympics, winning 46 gold medals and 121 medals overall. 

    However, Great Britain and China finished in second and third respectively.

    Who has been appointed as 24th Governor of Reserve Bank of India - Urjit R Patel

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 20th August 2016 the Union Government has announced Dr. Urjit R Patel as the 24th governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). 

    Now, he will be seen handling all the responsibilities for three years with effect from 4th September 2016.

    U R Patel will replace the present RBI Governor Dr. Raghuram Rajan, the former International Monetary Fund chief economist.

    At present, Dr Patel is the Deputy Governor of RBI and is also holding this assignment since 2013. After this appointment, he also becomes the eight Deputy Governor to be elevated as the Governor at RBI.

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 19th August 2016 the former international umpire Subrata Banerjee at the age of 71 passed away in Kolkata. 

    Subrata Banerjee had a 15-year career at the international level, where he was officiated in 13 ODIs.

    Know About Subrata Banerjee - 

    • Subrata Banerjee officiated in men's and women's international matches, as well as in age group tournaments, and also stood in a women's Test match.

    • However, he also made his international debut in November 1983 in an ODI between India and West Indies in Baroda.

    Name the actor who is chosen for France’s Chevalier de L’Ordre Arts et Lettres - Kamal Haasan

    Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, in the third week of August 2016 the Minister of Culture and Communication, France, have selected Kamal Haasan for the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight in the National Order Arts and Letters).

    He will be awarded with this prestigious award for his high level of artistic excellence and his distinguished career achievements.

    However, Kamal Haasan is the second Tamil star to be honored with the prestigious French award after thespian Sivaji Ganesan.

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 21st August 2016 N. Ramachandran, who is the President of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has been awarded with the Olympic Order Award for his outstanding services to the Olympic movement.
