    Former Brazilian footballer Hilderaldo Luiz Bellini died

    On 21st March 2014 former Brazilian international footballer Hilderaldo Luiz Bellini passed away. Hilderaldo Luiz Bellini was 83 years old.

    Bellini played for three clubs in his career and enjoyed spells with Vasco da Gama and Sao Paulo before finishing with Atletico Paranaense.

    Important to note :

    Hilderaldo Luiz Bellini was the captain of the team when Brazil won the first World Cup in 1958 in Sweden. There is a statue in his honour in the pose outside the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

    G D Birla Award 2013 bagged by Physicist Rajesh Gopakumar

    A theoritical Physicist Mr Rajesh Gopakumar bagged prestigious G D Birla award for scientific research for 2013. He is working at the Harish Chandra Research Institute in Allahabad. He got this award for his contribution in the Quantum Field Theory and String Theory. Mr Rajesh Gopakumar was born on 14th December 1967 and is 46 years old.

    Important to note :

    The G D Birla award for scientific research was instituted in 1991 by K K Birla Foundation to recognise significant scientific research undertaken by Indian scientists below the age of 50 and working in India.

    The G D Birla award carries a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh and a citation.

    Government of India divested its 9 percent stake in Axis Bank

    The Government of India divested its 9 percent stake in Axis Bank on 21 March 2014. 

    Through SUUTI, Government of India disposed 42.26 million shares or 9 percent of Axis Bank’s share capital.

    Important to note :

    • SUUTI : Specified Undertaking of the Unit Trust of India 
    • Axis Bank is the third largest private sector bank of India in which Government of India holds 20.7 percent share by assets.

    World Water Day observed across the Globe on 22nd March

    World Water Day was observed on 22 March 2014 across the globe with the theme Water and Energy to raise awareness of the inter-linkages between water and energy. World Water Day is observed for awareness to preserve the water.

    Friends we know Earth is covered with more 70% by water. But fresh water is only 2.5%, from which 70 per cent is frozen in both the polar caps, so at the end we have very small percentage of drinking water with us. 

    We should preserve every drop possible. 

    Important to note : 

    In 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) recommended to celebrate an international day of freshwater. The UN General Assembly accepted the recommendation of UNCED and celebrated first World Water Day on 22 March 1993.
