    Who is appointed as Defence Secretary by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) - G Mohan Kumar

    Among the important appointments, On 22nd May 2015, The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of G Mohan Kumar as the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

    The committee took the decision in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mohan Kumar has replaced Radha Krishna Mathur who completes his tenure on 28th May 2015. Kumar will be in the office for a period of two years.

    Kumar is currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Defence Production in the MoD and is a 1979 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre.

    Earlier, he had worked as the Secretary in the Ministries of Steel and Commerce and Industry and Additional and Special Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation among others.

    Who has sworned-in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu - J Jayalalithaa

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 23rd May 2015, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa sworned-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. 28 others were sworn in as ministers in her Cabinet.

    At the Madras University Centenary Auditorium in Chennai,Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah administered the oath. She is the 18th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

    She has replaced O Panneerselvam who resigned on 21st May 2015 following her exoneration on 11th May 2015 in the disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.

    Bangalore’s special court judgment which found Jayalalithaa guilty was overruled by court . The judgement made her incompetent to occupy the post and subsequently, O Panneerselvam assumed the office on 29th September 2014.

    Who has resigned from Chairman of Murugappa Group Corporate Board - A Vellayan

    On 22nd May 2015, A Vellayan resigned from the chairmanship of the Murugappa Group Corporate Board. He also renounced the post of Chairman in the EID Parry India Ltd and the Coromandel International Ltd..

    Vellayan made this decision in the backdrop of an order issued on 21 May 2015 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) linking A Vellayan to trades by two individuals in shares of Sabero Organics Gujarat Ltd.

    According to the SEBI, Vellayan shaared unpublished sensitive information related to the procurement to the traders which amounted to insider trading practices prohibited under the SEBI (Prohibition of Insider Trading) Regulations, 1992.
