    Dilbagh Singh appointed as DGP of Jammu & Kashmir on - 6th September 2018

    Jammu and Kashmir Government appointed Dilbagh Singh as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state on 6th September 2018. As per the government order, Director General (Prisons), Dilbagh Singh has been given additional charge of Director General of Police, untill further notice.
    He will be having a regular appointment only after his name is cleared by the UPSC.


    Singh replaced Shesh Paul Vaid, who was removed from the post and was appointed as the Transport Commissioner in the State’s General Administrative Department. Vaid who is a 1986-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the Director General of Police in December 2016 and is due to retire in October 2019.

    • He is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1987 batch.
    • He was appointed as the Director General (Prisons) in March 2018 after the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Naved Jhatt escape  while he was on a routine health check-up in a city hospital in February.
    • During his tenure as Director General of Prisons, Singh streamlined many things including removing the dangerous terrorists from Kashmir jails.
    • Earlier, he served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu.

    PM Jan Dhan Yojana to be made open-ended scheme on - 5th August 2018

    The Union Government decided to make the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) an open-ended scheme on 5th August 2018  and added more incentives to encourage people towards opening bank accounts.

    This scheme was launched in August 2014 for a period of four years. Banking on its successful implementation, the government has now decided to make the scheme open-ended with more incentives.

    Objective

    The Government has decided to continue the flagship financial inclusion program with the main focus on opening an account from every household to every adult.


    Important Highlights

    • The overdraft limit for account holders has now been doubled to Rs 10000 under the new incentives.
    • The free accident insurance cover for those opening Jan Dhan accounts after 28th August too has been doubled to Rs 2 lakh.
    • Further, there will be no conditions attached for over-draft of up to Rs 2,000.
      The upper age limit to avail the facility has also been hiked to 65 from the earlier 60 years.
    • Other than this, the pipeline of Jandhan-Aadhaar-Mobile will be continued to provide the necessary backbone to cover these activities and thereby  speeding up the pace of digitized financially included and insured society.
