    From 1 January 2017 you have to dial which number for any Emergency throughout India – 112

    Good News: From 1 January 2017, the single emergency number that is 112, will help people to reach immediate services of police, ambulance and fire department.

    However, this single emergency number 112 of India will be similar to the '911' all-in-one emergency service in the United States.

    Few Highlights – 

    • This emergency service will also be accessible even through those SIMs and landlines whose outgoing call facility has been stopped or temporarily suspended.

    • In any difficulties or problems, only you have to call 112, which will direct the call to concerned departments immediately for help.

    • Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, approved this provision of a single number for various emergency services.  

    NASA unveils first global topographic model of – Mercury

    NASA which is known as The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has unveiled the first global digital elevation of Mercury. 

    This model was unveiled by NASA’s MESSENGER ((MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging) mission. 

    Do You Know -

    • The NASA’s MESSENGER mission shows stunning detail the topography across the entire innermost planet of our solar system. 

    • Also, the model was created using more than 100,000 images acquired by the MESSENGER mission.

    Who is elected to Singapore Parliament - Murali Pillai

    Among Important National Current Affairs, an Indian-origin lawyer Murali Pillai from Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) has been elected member of the parliament.

    Murali Pillai got elected by garnering 61.21 per cent of the votes in the by-election held at suburban Bukit Batok constituency. 

    Whereas, his opponent Chee Soon Juan from Singapore Democratic Party got 38.79 per cent of votes. Along with this victory, Mr Murali became the first PAP candidate to win a by-election in a single member constituency in more than three decades.

    Know About Murali Pillai – 

    • Murali Pillai, who is known as K. Muralidharan Pillai is a Singaporean lawyer and politician, as well as a former police officer.

    • In 1996, Murali Pillai worked in the Singapore Police Force before his admission to practice law in his legal career.

    • Murali Pillai is currently the head for commercial litigation in Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP.

    Which tennis player won the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open - Novak Djokovic

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, On 8 May 2016, tennis player Novac Djokovic defeated Andy Murray 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to conquer the Mutua Madrid Open title in Madrid, Spain.

    However, it was Djokovic’s fifth win in the last 6 ATP 1000 competitions. After this win, he also reached a record 29 Masters 1000 titles.

    Mutua Madrid Open title was Djokovic’s second title on the Caja Mágica clay. He claimed the game in two hours and six minutes.

    • Novak Djokovic, who is a Serbian professional tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 1 in men's singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

    Flying Observatory SOFIA detects what in Martian Atmosphere - Atomic Oxygen

    Atomic Oxygen, which was detected in the upper layers of the Martian atmosphere is also known as Mesosphere. 

    Let me tell you, this presence of Atomic Oxygen for the first time since the last observation 40 years ago was detected by an instrument onboard the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA).

    Atomic oxygen also affects how other gases escape Mars and therefore has a significant impact on the planet’s atmosphere.

    China bug Chan's Megastick declared - World's Longest Insect

    Among Important International Current Affairs, On 5 May 6, the Insect Museum of West China declared that a stick insect measuring 62.4 centimeters has broken the record for length among the world’s 807625 known insects.

    This insect, named Phobaeticus chani or Chan's megastick was discovered two years ago in the southern province of Guangxi, China.

    Although, the previous record-holder was a Malaysian 56.7-centimeter-long stick insect discovered in 2008. One of its specimen is on display in London’s Natural History Museum.

    Know About Chan's megastick

    •Phobaeticus chani which is also known as Chan's megastick is species of stick insects.

    •This bug is named after amateur Malaysian naturalist, Datuk Chan Chew Lun.

    •However, it is speculated that it may live in the canopy of the rainforest, making it especially hard to find.
