    International Women Day 2018 observed across the globe on - 8th March

    Among Important Days, On 8th March 2018, International Women's Day 2018 was observed across the globe. This day is observed to give respect to women and to stess on the need of gender equality, rights and Justice.

    Theme of Women's Day 2018 was 'Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives'.

    The theme of International Women’s Day 2018 was 'Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives'.

    Previously, sexual harassment, violence and discrimination against women had captured headlines, leading to global marches and campaigns like '#MeToo' and '#TimesUp' in the United States of America and in other countries.

    As per UN Report, More than 50 per cent of urban women and girls in developing countries live in conditions where they lack at least one of the following: access to clean water, improved sanitation facilities, durable housing and sufficient living area.

    International Women's Day :

    The United Nations started celebrating International Women's Day on 8th March 1975. From then it is an annual event celebrated on every 8th March.

    Union Cabinet approved inking of four MoU's with which country - France

    On 7th March 2018, Union Cabinet approved four MoU's with France with an aim to prevent illicit consumption of Narcotic Drugs, enhance people to people contacts, fostering mobility of students, academics, researchers and skilled professionals.

    These four MoU's are in following areas :

    • Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement
    • In in field of academics
    • Prevention of illicit consumption of Narcotic Drugs
    • In field of environment

    Name of Indian architect who won 2018 Pritzker Prize - Balkrishna Doshi

    Among Important Prizes, On 7th March 2018, Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi was awarded with Pritzker Prize for being able to interpret architecture and transform it into buildings that respect Eastern culture.
    Important to mention here that Balkrishna Doshi became first Indian to win the Pritzker Prize.

    Balkrishna Doshi's Work is very well respected as he focuses on designing low cost housing projects.

    About Balkrishna Doshi :

    Balkrishna Doshi is alumnus of JJ School of Architecture in Mumbai. He is also a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Indian Institute of Architects. Apart from this he has founded many institutes in the field of Architecture.

    About Pritzker Prize :

    Pritzker Prize is so prestigious that it is regarded as equivalent to the Nobel Prize in the field of architecture. Prize money is of USD 100000. This prize is sopnsored by Hyatt Foundation.
