    Section 309 of IPC removed by Govt

    On 10th December 2014, Union Home Ministry removed Section 309 of IPC (Indian Penal Code). Section 309 of IPC was concerned with attempt to suicide, thus by removing this attempt to suicide was decriminalized. It is also important to mention here that earlier 20th Law Commission which was headed by Justice (retd) A P Shah recommended to decriminalize attempt to suicide in its 210th report.

    20 agreements signed between India-Russia during the 15th India-Russia Annual Summit

    On 11th November 2014, During the 15th India-Russia Annual Summit held in New Delhi 20 agreements were signed between two countries. Indian PM Narendra Modi and Russia President Vladimir Putin were present on this occasion as we know that Russia President Vladimir Putin was on official visit to India.

    Agreements covers a vast array of fields like nuclear energy, oil and gas, health, investment, mining, media and wind power. Both countries also vowed to strengthen the special strategic partnership and unveiled Druzhba-Dosti vision statement for the next decade.

    Xiaomi was banned by Delhi HC over a patent issue with Ericcson

    On 10th December 2014, Selling of Xiaomi phones was banned by Delhi High Court over a patent row with Ericsson. Earlier Ericsson put a plea in Delhi HC that the Chinese company's phones infringed on its patents, so Ericsson sued Xiaomi over the patent issue under the FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) category.

    540 MW thermal power plant was acquired by Tata Power for 3000 crore rupees

    On 10th December 2014, 540-megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in Maharashtra was aquired by Tata Power for Rs 3000 crore. With this total capacity of TATA Power will be increased to 8885 MW.

    Anurag Jain appointed as the Joint Secretary in PMO

    On 10th December 2014, 1989 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre Mr Anurag Jain was appointed as the Joint Secretary in Prime Minister Office (PMO) of India. He will be serving at this post till 28th June 2016. At this time of his appointment he was working as Joint Secretary in Department of Financial Services under the Union Finance Ministry. He has also served as an Acting Chairman and Acting Managing Director of Export-Import Bank of India from December 2013 to February 2014.

    21st June declared as International Yoga Day by UN

    On 11th December 2014, UN General Assembly adopted India-led resolution saying June 21 as International Day of Yoga, this way recognising that Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being.

    This resolution was introduced by India's Ambassador to UN Asoke Mukerji and had 175 nations joining as co-sponsors which was itself highest number ever for any General Assembly resolution.
