    BJP shown landslide victory in Lok Sabha Elections

     Political party BJP has shown a landslide victory in Loksabha Elections by Winning 282 seats out of total 543 seats in India. It has been emerged as strongest party as other main Party INC was able to get only 44 seats. 

    Most of people in politics giving direct or indirect credit to Mr. Narendra Modi for his leadership. After many years India is able to form a strong government where a single party can form a government.

    Ban on LTTE extended for five years by Union Government

    On 14th May 2014, The Union Home Ministry extended the ban on LTTE for five years. Earlier ban was imposed on LTTE in May 2012.

    After assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India in 1991 LTTE was banned by India. LTTE was declared an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

    LTTE : Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, was a separatist militant organisation based in northern part of Sri Lanka and was founded in 1976 by Velupillai Prabhakaran.

    A.B. Pandya appointed as the Chairman of Central Water Commission

     Mr. Ashwin B. Pandya, has been appointed as the Chairman of Central Water Commission & Ex-officio Secretary to the Government of India. He was holding additional charge of the post since November, 2013. A graduate in Civil Engineering from Saurashtra University and post-graduate in Structural Engineering from IIT, Delhi, Shri Pandya joined the Central Water Engineering Service in CWC in October, 1977 as Assistant Director. In a career spanning more than 36 years, he has held various positions in the Department and other organizations under the Ministry of Water Resources like WAPCOS, NWDA and NPCC. He was elevated to the post of Member (Design & Research) & Ex-officio Addl.

    Secretary to the Government of India in August, 2012. Shri Pandya has all round experience in water resources sector involving resource assessment, project planning, design, execution, operation and safety assurance, funds management, commercial consultancy management etc. An avid proponent of irrigation, multi-purpose and hydropower projects, his stint as the Chairman of the Organisation is expected to provide much needed boost to the Sector. 

    Boxing India approved by AIBA as the new provisional member to represent India

    On 15th May 2014, AIBA approved a new body Boxing India, as the provisional National federation to represent the India, which is important Current Affairs among sports news. According to an AIBA release, the new body would be provisional member of AIBA until ratification by the AIBA Congress, following recommendations by an evaluation committee.

    The decision was officially conveyed by AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu in a letter to Indian Olympic Association president N. Ramachandran. The approval came after the AIBA Executive Committee was convinced that the new vision and the initiatives proposed by Boxing India would help revive the sport of boxing in the India in a professional and ethical manner.

    Important to note : 

    Earlier on 3 March 2014, the AIBA Executive Committee had decided to end the official relationship of AIBA with the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation and provisionally exclude the national federation from AIBA membership. This action was taken due to serious violations of the AIBA Statutes and Bylaws.

    Plastic currency notes to be launched in 2015: Raghuram Ranjan

    On 15 May 2014, The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Mr. Raghuram Rajan announced that plastic currency notes will be launched in 2015 after field trials. It was announced after the Central Board of Directors of the RBI Meet in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

    Earlier in February 2013, Union Government had informed Parliament that it will introduce one billion plastic currency notes in five cities in later half of 2014 on a pilot basis. The five selected cities for pilot testing are Shimla, Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar. 

    Why it is Important ? 

    The introduction of Plastic currency notes would help stop counterfeiting of Indian rupees as they are difficult to imitate. Also, Plastic currency notes with an average life span of about five years are cleaner than paper notes.

    Grant Flower named as Pakistan batting coach

    Among the Sports Current Affairs, On 15th May 2014, former Zimbabwe batsman Grant Flower was named as the batting coach of Pakistan cricket team for two years. He will be joining at this post on 1st August 2014 before the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series.

    Grant Flower is 43 years old and has served as the batting coach of Zimbabwe for over three years from October 2010. In cricketing he had a lengthy career which included 221 ODIs and 67 Tests.
