    10th Savio Cup All India Basketball tournament title lifted by ONGC

    On 19th January 2015, 10th Savio Cup All India Basketball tournament title was lifted by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Dehradun in the final match played at Don Bosco School court in Matunga, Mumbai. ONGC defeated Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai by 63-53 to win the title.

    In the women cateogry Chhattisgarh team won the title by defeating Southern Railway team. 

    Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani appointed as Chairman of CBFC

    On 19th January 2015, Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani was appointed as the Chairman of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Pahlaj Nihalani has given few blockbuster movies like Shola aur Shabnam and Aankhen. He succeeded Leela Samson who resigned earlier on 16th January 2015.

    Information and Broadcasting Ministry reconstituted the complete Board and appointed nine new members in it. The tenure of newly appointed Chairman and its members will be of three years.

    Chairman and the members of CBFC were appointed in accordance with the sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and Rule 3 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 1983.

    Mobile handsets with fake, duplicate identity numbers banned by Govt

    On 19th January 2015, Union Government prohibited imports of all kind of mobile handsets with fake or duplicate Unique Identity Numbers with an aim to help the security agencies to track callers using different SIM cards.

    What is IMEI number : 

    IMEI - International Mobile Equipment Identity is a unique 15-17 digit number which is used by GSM network to identify validity of the devices on a cellphone or mobile. 

    What is ESN : 

    Electronic Serial Number (ESN) is a unique identification number that every cellular phone has and is assigned by the specific manufacturer.

    What is MEID :

    MEID - Mobile Equipment Identifier is a unique number that identifies a wireless handset. This system replaced the electronic serial number (ESN) system in 2006 this helps to activate a phone with a carrier that requires your phone's unique identifier in a specific format.

    India and South Africa signed MoU for developing Youth Enterprises

    On 19th January 2015, MoU was signed between India and South Africa for developing Youth Enterprises. Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC) and Black Business Council (BBC) of South Africa signed this MoU during a Conference on Cooperation in MSME Sector organized by NSIC and the High Commission of India in cooperation with Black Business Council.

    Four ICG vessels commissioned by Defence Minister at Mormugao Port of Vasco

    On 19th January 2015, Four new Indian Coast Guard (ICG) vessels were commissioned at Mormugao Port of Vasco in Goa by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. Names of these vessels are ICG Amogh and ICG Ameya and two interceptor boats Charlie 413 (C-413) and Charlie 414 (C-414).

    These boats will be very helpful for patrolling and interception and will also be used for the purpose of research and rescue by the agency.

    Two vessels are built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd and have a displacement of 290 tons and can hit maximum speed of 33 knots while other two boats are built by Larsen & Turbo shipyard Ltd. Hazira and have a displacement of 106 tons and can hit a maximum sped of 45 knots.
