    Bihar gets Jitan Ram Manjhi as its new Chief Minister

     Choice of former CM of Mr. Nitish Kumar, Mr. Jitan Ram Manjhi was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Bihar on 20 May 2014. Governor of Bihar Mr. DY Patil administered his oath of the office and secrecy at the Raj Bhavan in Patna. As we know that Nitish Kumar has resigned from the post on 17th May 2014 after party was not able to perform well in 16th loksabha elections. 

    Apart from Manjhi, Governor Patil also administered oath to 17 other ministers including two independents. This newly formed government will seek a vote of confidence on 23rd May 2014. 

    Mr. Jitan Ram Manjhi took up the job of clerk with Posts and Telegraph department in 1968 but quit it in 1980 to join Congress. He is a six-time MLA. He born on October 6, 1944 at Mahkar village in Gaya district

    Pawan Chamling sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for 5th term

     On 21st May 2014, Mr. Pawan Chamling was sworn in as Sikkim Chief Minister for the record fifth consecutive time. His oath was administered by Governor Mr. Shriniwas Patil at a function in Raj Bhawan. The Chamling-led Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) had secured a two-thirds majority in the Assembly elections winning 22 seats out of 32.

    Important to note : 

    Mr. Pawan Chamling is in power since December 12, 1994 and he is 63 years old. After being sworn in for the fifth consecutive time, he is on his way to break the late Communist patriarch Jyoti Basu's record of being India’s longest serving Chief Minister. As Basu has ruled West Bengal for 23 years from 1977 to 2000.

    Naveen Patnaik takes oath as Odisha CM for fourth time

     On 21 May 2014, one more news among political Current Affairs is, Mr. Naveen Patnaik was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Odisha for fourth consecutive term. Mr. Naveen Patnaik is president of The Biju Janata Dal (BJD). His oath of office and secrecy among 21 other ministers was administed by Governor S C Jamir.

    In the recently concluded Assembly Election 2014, the BJD won highest seats i.e,  117 seats out of 147 seats. Whereas the Congress won 16 seats and BJP won 10 seats.

    Mr. Naveen Patnaik was the Union Minister for Mines from BJD party in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

    WADA Foundation Board put Xenon & Argon gases in the prohibited list

    On 18th May 2014, WADA added two noble gases Xenon (Xe) and Argon (Ar) in the list of banned substances list. Xenon and Argon gases were banned after claims that athletes can use it through inhalation to enhance their performance, illegally. 

    As per the scientific studies, the gas has the power to artificially increase the levels of hormone Erythropoietin (EPO) in the blood that is forbidden under the WADA's rules.  

    The executive committee of the WADA approved the modification of its 2014 prohibited list on 18 May 2014.
