    Vincenzo Nibali of Italy wins 101st Tour de France

    On 27th July 2014,  Vincenzo Nibali of Italy won the 101st edition of the Tour de France in cycling. Nibali led the race for eighteen days out of twenty-one. He completed the Tour with a margin of 7 minutes 37 seconds over runner-up Jean-Christophe Peraud, which second largest margin, since Jan Ullrich who won by nine minutes in 1997. 

    The last Italian to win the Tour de France was Marco Pantani in 1998. After 16 years the prize went to Italy this way. 

    Amitabh Bachchan named Maharashtra's horticulture ambassador

    On 28th July 2014, The 71-year-old Indian Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan was appointed as the horticulture ambassador of Maharashtra. With this appointment, he will start promoting the horticulture sector in Maharashtra. 

    International Gaucher Day observed on 26 July

    The first International Gaucher Day will be celebrated on Saturday 26th July 2014, the 160th birthday of Philippe Gaucher. The day has been established by the EGA to raise international awareness of Gaucher disease and our slogan for the day is "Rare but Not Alone".

    The IGD day has been established by the European Gaucher Alliance (EGA) to raise international awareness about Gaucher disease.

    Philippe Charles Ernest Gaucher was a French dermatologist who in 1882 became the first person to describe the signs and symptoms of Gaucher disease. Gaucher discovered the disease as a student, which later became famous as Gaucher disease.

    Sushma Swaraj completed 3-day visit to Nepal

    External Affairs Minister of India,  Sushma Swaraj visited Nepal from 25th July to 27th July 2014. She was on a three-day visit to Nepal at the invitation of Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal. 

    She co-chaired the meeting of the Indo-Nepal Joint Commission that was held on 26th July 2014. India and Nepal agreed to review and adjust the Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1950 to reflect the current realities. The two countries also agreed to finalise the text of power trade deal.

    PM launched unique web platform to get citizen's ideas for governance

    On 26th July 2014, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi launched a web platform named as MyGov. URL of this web platform is MyGov.nic.in . The platform has been created to facilitate Citizen Engagement in Good Governance.

    MyGov will enable the citizens especially the youth to volunteer for specific tasks and projects at grassroots level. It will allow the common people to reach the government with ideas and suggestions.

    The platform will allow flow of ideas/suggestions on various issues including cleaning the river Ganga, education of girl child and job creation etc. 

    The National Informatics Centre (NIC), Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) would implement and manage the platform "MyGov" which would facilitate Citizen Engagement in Good Governance.
