    JEE Main Exam - Syllabus, Eligibility and Exam Pattern

    As we all know that JEE Main exam is the popular exam among the students of India. JEE which is also known as a Joint Entrance Examination is a two tier examination (Main & Advanced) regulated by CBSE Board. Candidates can get admissions in B.Tech/B.Arch. programs offered by NITs, IITs and other engineering institutions through JEE Main exam while IITs offer these courses through JEE Advanced exam.

    Although, JEE Main exam is also considered as a qualifying exam to appear JEE Advanced exam. Candidates can check the detailed information of JEE Main here including application form, eligibility, exam dates, exam pattern and syllabus. JEE Main online application has started from 1st December, 2016.

    What’s New in JEE Main?

    From next year, while calculating JEE Main Rank the weightage of 12th marks will not be considered.

     Also there are no minimum criteria for 12th percentage for appearing in JEE Main exam.

     General candidates should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the intermediate examination conducted by the respective Boards. While for reserved category students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

     

     All the Indian citizen candidates should also possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI.The candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data, at the time of filling application form of JEE (Main).

    JEE Main eligibility criteria-

    • Age Limit: Candidate’s date of birth should fall on or after 1st October, 1992 for general candidates and 1st, October 1987 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

    ·      Those candidates who are appearing/passed 12th or equivalent exam in 2015 or 2016 with PCM can apply.

    ·       Candidates who have passed intermediate or equivalent exam in 2014 are not eligible to apply.

    ·       Number of Subjects in Higher Secondary: Minimum five subjects in 12th OR qualifying examination.

    ·       Number of Attempts: 3 attempts maximum.

    ·       Diploma holders (3 years) can also apply.

    JEE Main Paper I includes –

           Courses: It is held for engineering courses (B.Tech/BE).

    ·        Number of Questions: 90 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).

    ·        Subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

    ·        Language: Hindi, English (candidates can select either of the option while filling the application form)

    ·        Mode: Offline & online mode.

    ·        Duration: 3 hours (4 hours for the candidates with 40% or more disability)

    ·        Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct response.

    ·        Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer or multi-responses.

     JEE Main Paper II includes –

          Courses: It is held for Architecture course. (B.Arch).

    ·        Number of Questions: 82 questions (MCQs) out of which 30 questions from mathematics, 2 questions (descriptive) of drawing test and 50 questions from aptitude test.

    ·        Subjects: Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing.

    ·        Language: English, Hindi (candidates can select at the time of filling the application form)

    ·        Mode: Offline mode only.

    ·        Duration: 3 hours. (4 hours for the candidates having 40% or more disability)

    ·        Marking Scheme: Each correct answer will be give you 4 marks (2 questions of drawing will carry 70 marks).

    ·        Negative Marking: One mark will be deducted for each incorrect or multi-response.
