    SSC CHSL Exam - Eligibility, Exam Pattern and Syllabus

    The Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level exam also known as CHSL exam each year for the recruitment of candidates in various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations or sectors of the Government of India. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam for students who have cleared their 12th standard for recruitment to various posts like:

    • Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants.
    • Data Entry Operator.
    • Lower Divisional Clerk.
    • Court Clerk.

    ELIGIBILITY OF CHSL MATRICULATION EXAM

    There are three important criteria which a candidate should follow in order to be called eligible for the SSC CHS. The three parameters are given below:

    1. Citizenship: Candidate must/should be a citizen of India.
    2. Age Limit: candidate’s age should lie between the ages of 18 to 27 years.
    3. Educational Qualification: Candidates must be a passed out student of 12th Standard or equivalent examination through a recognized Board or University.

    ADMIT CARD

    CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) admits card will be hosted on official website of SSC. Candidates can download their CHSL exam admit card form respective regional SSC’s website. Candidates will not be allowed to enter in the examination hall if they came for the examination without the admit card.

    APPLICATION FEE

    • The total application fee charged online is 100/-
    • Exemption: there is no fee to be paid by female, SC, ST, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen candidates.
    • The payment of the application fee should be done only through SBI online banking either in the form of challan or through SBI Net Banking or any other bank Credit/Debit Card. Challan form will be generated online
    • To pay fee in cash, candidate should take print out of challan generated online after the completion of Part-1 registration is done. Deposit the required fee in any branch of SBI banks and then continue with the Part-2 registration
    • Candidates who are interested to pay through online banking can go directly to part-2 registration after completion of part-1 registration. Aspirant must get their registration number and date of birth to continue to Part-2 registration

    SSC CHSL EXAM PATTERN

    The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) starts conducting the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) in 3 levels for various job vacancies:

    Before beginning the SSC CHSL examination studies, it is important to make note of changes in exam pattern and syllabus. The modifications to SSC CHSL Exam Pattern which are applicable are mentioned below:

    • SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam will be conducted in online mode but tier 2 and 3 will be offline
    • The total number of mark is 100 and has to be completed within 60 minutes in pen and paper mode.
    • Reduction in time limit for examination of Tier -I from between 2 hours or 75 minutes.
    • There are no changes that are occurred in tier 3
    • No Sectional Cut off will take place in this exam.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE

    The Selection process of SSC CHSL exam includes three steps:

    • 1st Step: Tier-1 Written Exam (Objective Type) of 200 Marks and will be conducted in Online Mode
    • 2nd Step: Tier-2 Written Exam (Descriptive Type) of100 Marks and will be conducted in Offline Mode
    • 3rd Step: Tier-3 Skill Test / Typing Test and candidates who qualify the tier-2 exam will be called for Skill Test / Typing Test.

    In Case of Tie

    In case when a candidate or more than one equals the aggregate score, a tie breaker will be applied and the candidates will be ranked via:

    • The marks scored in the exam.
    • According to the date of birth, the senior will be listed before the junior
    • Alphabetical order in which first names of the candidates appear.

    SYLLABUS OF SSC CHSL MATRICULATION EXAM

    Candidates who are going to appear in CHSL exam should be aware the exam pattern such as marking scheme, type of questions, and exam duration, syllabus. Reading this article will help candidates to prepare a strategy and it is listed below:

    Tier-1 Examination SSC CHSL :

    • Exam is objective type and will be directed online.
    • There will be four parts in a question paper namely (Part-1) General Intelligence, (Part-2) English Language, (Part-3) Quantitative Aptitude, and (Part-4) General Awareness / General Knowledge.
    • Exam will have a total of 100 questions which are worth of 200 marks.
    • Maximum time allowed to attempt the paper is 75 minutes.
    • Questions will be set bilingually i.e. in English & Hindi for parts: 1, 3 & 4.
    • Negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer is allowed.

    Tier-2 Examination SSC CHSL :

    • Exam is descriptive type and will be conducted offline on pen & paper mode.
    • Candidates need to write essay / précis / letters / application writing etc.
    • The total number of marks are 100 and the duration is 2 hours
    • Exam will have to be written bilingually i.e. either in Hindi or in English.

    Tier-3 Skill Test / Typing Test SSC CHSL :

    • Typing Test: Candidates, who are opting English typing, should be having a speed of 35 words per minute and those candidates who are opting Hindi typing should have typing speed of 30 words per minute as ruled by the SSC.
    • Skill Test: Data Entry Speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on computer is tested by   the SSC on the candidate. This test is only allowed for Data Entry Operator post.
