    Human Rights Day observed on - 10th December

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 10th December 2015, Human Rights Day was observed around the globe to encourage and raise awareness of the two pact of the day - International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

    The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Office on this day which marked the 50th anniversary of these two International pacts, launched Our Rights. Our Freedoms. Always.

    Who has received solar panel research and development contract from US Military - IISc Banglore

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 9th December 2015, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Banglore got a contract for research and development on solar powered micro-grid from US military.

    Highlights of the contract

    • The US Pacific Air Forces, Yokota Air Base in Japan awarded the federal contract worth 52900 US dollars.
    • IISc has recceived the contract to develop solar powered micro-grid with battery and supercapacitor energy storage system.

    Who has been named as the 2015 ‘Person of the Year’ by TIME Magazine - German Chancellor Merkel

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 9th December 2015, TIME Magazine named German Chancellor Angela Merkel as 2015 Person of the Year. The magazine praised her role in Europe’s crisis.

    Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Islamic State leader was at the seconf position and US Presidential candidate Donald Trump went to third place.

    Since 1927, Merkel is the fourth woman to be named winner outright and the first in 29 years. The other women who won this title are Corazon Aquino (1986), Queen Elizabeth II (1952) and Wallis Simpson (1936).

    Who has won 2016 Queen's Young Leaders Award - India’s Kartik Sawhney & Neha Swain

    Among the important International Current Affairs, The 2016 Queen's Young Leaders award was won by two Indians, Kartik Sawhney and Neha Swain. In June 2016, British monarch in Buckingham Palace will present them the award.

    The will be honoured for their outstanding work in transforming the lives of others and making a abiding difference in their communities.

    About Kartik Sawhney

    • Being blind since his birth, Kartik Sawhney found that blind students were not able to practise science after Grade 10.
    • His project STEMAccess, provides hands-on science workshops in India.

    She is the founder of NGO Rubaroo and the youth facilitator. Her NGO gives an inclusive space for young people, irrespective of their socio-economic background, to grow their leadership skills through interactive workshops.

    Who has become the 10th country to approve AoA of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank - Luxembourg

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 8th December 2015, the 10th country to approve the Articles of Agreement (AoA) that will lay the legal framework for the China-initiated Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is Luxembourg.

    Other countries are : Brunei Darussalam, Mongolia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, New Zealand, China, and Nepal.

    Except the Philippines all other 56 countries have signed the AoA among the 57 founder-member countries.

    About Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)

    • On 24th October 2014, 21 Asian countries signed the MoU on Establishing Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
    • AIIB is designed to finance infrastructure building in Asia.

    India-Pakistan agreed to replace 8-point Composite Dialogue with 10-point Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue
