    Integrated case management system of Supreme Court launched by - PM Narendra Modi

    The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi launched the integrated case management system of the Supreme Court on 10th May 2017 at a function in New Delhi. Chief Justice of India, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and judges of the apex court attended this inaugural event.

    Important Highlights

    • This Integrated Case Management System will be connected with the Supreme Court website.
    • This move is the apex court’s first step towards becoming a paperless, digital court.
    • The new digital system will enable the litigants to access their data and retrieve information required online.
    • Jagdish Singh Khehar, Chief Justice of India has proposed to integrate the system with all the 24 high courts and subordinate courts in the country.
    • Such a system will help bring in more transparency in the system, reduce manipulation and make the litigant aware about the progress of the case on a real time basis.
    • This system will also enable each central and state government department to know if they have been made party to the case and help them prepare accordingly.
    • The total fee incurred of the court and the process, would be calculated online itself, which will help the litigant know about the cost involved.

    Union Government sets up a task force to compute - Reliable and timely employment data

    The Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi created a task force on employment data on 9th May 2017. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya headed the task force and will be responsible for creating a methodology to generate timely and reliable employment data.

    It will also recommend solutions which can be implemented in a time-bound manner. Other task force members are Labour Secretary M. Sathiyavathy Secretary of the statistics department T.C.A. Ananth

    • In view of the importance of timely and reliable data on employment, Prime Minister has directed his Office and concerned Ministries to come up with a solution to fill the long-standing gap in the country’s statistical architecture.
    • The Prime Minister directed that the task is expedited so that policies on employment can be formulated with a proper appreciation of impacts, based on credible data.
    • The government said, it attaches the highest priority to create job but the lack of a reliable, timely data on employment has made it difficult for policymakers and independent observers to assess the employment extent generation at different points of time.
    • CRISIL says, around 18 million people enter the workforce annually in India. 
    • On the other hand, industry lobby group Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) says that between 2011-12 and 2015-16, 
    • India created 3.65 million jobs annually, which means India faces the challenge of job creation.

    29th edition of CORPAT between India and Indonesia begins at - Port Blair

    The 29th series of India- Indonesia Co-Ordinated Patrol (CORPAT) commenced at Port Blair. The Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Sutedi Senoputra arrived at Haddo Wharf, Port Blair to mark the commencement of 29th series of IND–INDO CORPAT. An Indonesian Maritime Patrol Aircraft also flew in with the Indonesian Naval delegation led by First Admiral Bambang Irwanto to INS Utkrosh.

    First Admiral Bambang Irwanto called on Major General PS Sai, Staff chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command and the delegation also interacted with Commodore Ashutosh Ridhorkar, the Naval Component Commander. The closing ceremony of the CORPAT is scheduled at Belawan, Indonesia from 22nd to 25th May 2017.

    Important highlights

    • The Coordinated Patrol increases mutual understanding and inter-operability between the navies of the two countries.
    • It reflects the shared concerns between the two countries for a peaceful Indian Ocean to benefit of international community.
    • During the stay at Port Blair from 9th to 12th May 2017, the visiting crew will be engaged in interactions at various strata, including sports fixtures, ship visits, professional interactions and visits to places of historical and tourist interests.

    Konkona Sen Sharma bags Best Director and Best Actress awards at - New York Indian Film Festival

    Konkona Sen Sharma grabbed the top honours at the 2017 New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) in the first week of May 2017. Konkona won the Best Director award for her directorial debut A Death in the Gunj and the Best Actress award for Lipstick Under My Burkha at NYIFF 2017. A Death in the Gunj is a drama thriller starring Kalki Koechlin, Vikrant Massey, Jim Sarbh and Tanuja.
