Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 10th March 2016, the Irani Cup Cricket title was won by Rest of India after defeating 41-time Ranji Champions Mumbai.

In the Irani history, Rest of India’s chase was also the best-ever run-chase.

Who has been appointed 21st Law Commission Chairperson - Former SC Judge BS Chauhan

Among the important appointments, On 10th March 2016, former Supreme Court judge Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan was appointed as the chairperson of the 21st Law Commission by Union Government. 

Currently, he is head of the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal. Earlier from July 2008 to May 2009, he served as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and from May 2009 to July 2014, he served as the judge of the Supreme Court. 

At present, the Commission comprise of three members, Secretary to the Law Commission of India, two ex-officio members and Member-Secretary and Secretary to the Union Government.

Present members are:

• Dr. G Narayana Raju, Secretary (Legislative) Member (Ex-Officio)
• PK Malhotra, Member-Secretary and Secretary to the Union Government
• Dr. Pawan Sharma, Secretary to the Law Commission of India
• PK Malhotra, Law Secretary Member (Ex-Officio)
• Justice Ravi R Tripathi, a former judge of the Gujarat High Court.

Who has been named Secretary General of the Arab League - Egyptian diplomat Ahmed Abul Gheit

Among the important International Current Affairs, On 10th March 2016, Egyptian diplomat and former Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit was named as Secretary General of the Arab League as announced by Bahraini Foreign Minister Khaled bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa.

The announcement was made at the end of 22-nation ministerial meeting in Cairo.

He will replace Nabil El-Araby. During the final seven years of Hosni Mubarak's rule, Gheit served as Egypt's foreign minister.

Who has won the annual Visitor’s Awards for Central Universities - Tezpur University and JNU

Among the important National Current Affairs, On 10th March 2016, the annual Visitor’s Award for the Best University was won by Tezpur University. Besides, Rakesh Bhatnagar and the Molecular Parasitology Group of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also won the Visitor’s Awards for Research and Innovation respectively.

The awards will be presented by President Pranab Mukherjee on 14th March 2016 at a function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Professor Rakesh Bhatnagar of Jawaharlal Nehru University will be presented with the Visitor’s Award for Innovation for development of a genetically engineered vaccine and a therapeutic antibody against anthrax.

The Molecular Parasitology Group of Jawaharlal Nehru University will be presented with the Visitor’s Award for Research for their pioneering work in the area of molecular parasitology especially amoebiasis, anti-malaria and leishmaniasis.
