    World Population Day 2018 observed on - 11th July 2018

    On 11th July 2018, World Population Day was observed across the globe. This day is being observed with an aim to give attention to urgency and importance of population issues.

    Theme of World Population Day 2018 was Family Planning is a Human Right.

    Important to mention here that Current Population of World is 7.6 billion which is expected to reach 8.6 billion by 2030. Approx 83 Million people increasing every year in world.  Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme established this event in 1989.

    Gujarat Government grants Religious Minority Status to - Jews

    On 6th July 2018, Gujarat Government granted Religious Minority Status to Jews Community. So now there are total seven religious minorities in the state, these are :

    1. Muslims,
    2. Christians,
    3. Sikhs,
    4. Buddhists,
    5. Parsis,
    6. Jains and
    7. Jews.

    Important to mention here that West Bengal and Maharashtra has already granted minority status to Jews.

    Rajya Sabha signs MoU with - Rwanda

    On 10th July 2018, Rajya Sabha inked an MoU with Senate of Rwanda for promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue. This is first time Rajya Sabha has entered into this type of MoU in 76 years.
    Mr. Venkaiah Naidu inked MoU with visiting President of the Senate of Rwanda Bernard Makuza.

    Highlights of the MoU

    There are 6 articles in MoU which will help to promote Inter-Parliamentary dialogue, these are :

    1. Capacity building of parliamentary staff,
    2. Organisation of conferences,
    3. Forums,
    4. Seminars,
    5. Staff attachment programmes and
    6. Workshops and exchanges.

    What is the rank of India in terms of largest economy - Sixth

    As per latest per World Bank data on the gross domestic product (GDP) of countries for 2017, India became 6th largest economy of world. India recorded a GDP of USD 2,597,491 million in 2017.

    If we talk about top 3 largest economies, then these are :

    1. USA - GDP of USD 19,390,604 million,
    2. CHINA - GDP of USD 12,237,700 million
    3. Japan - GDP of USD 4,872,136.95

    India became 69th shareholder in which bank - European development bank

    On 11th July 2018, India became 69th shareholder of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This will make way for more joint investment with Indian companies across the bank's regions of operation.

    All other stakeholders voted unanimously in favour of India. Earlier Indian government had applied for EBRD membership in December 2017.

    Home Ministry instituted how many Police Medals - Five

    New five Police Medals were instituted by Union Home Ministry to promote professionalism and excellence in police services.

    These five medals are :

    1. Union Home Minister's Special Operation Medal
    2. Police Antarik Suraksha Seva Padak
    3. Asadharan Aasuchana Kushalata Padak
    4. Utkrisht and Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal
    5. Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation
