    National Productivity Day observed in India on - 12 February 2017

    India observes its National Productive Day on 12th Feb 2017. In fact it goes from 12th-18th Feb for a complete one week with the theme of ‘From Waste to Profits-through Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’.

    Key Highlights:

    National Productivity Council (NPC) organizes this day to encourage all the stakeholders to implement productivity tools and techniques with contemporary relevant themes.

    Various workshops, essay competitions, painting competitions, training programs, debates are also organized in this entire week.

    Which Automaker bought Ambassador Car from Hindustan Motors - Peugeot SA, a French automaker 

    • Peugeot SA, a French automaker bought Ambassador Car from Hindustan Motors on 11th February 2017 for Rs 80 crore. This company has a brief 3- year presence in India.
    • Ambassador was the first diesel car of India and was the longest produced brand that was manufactured from1958 to 2014.
    • Hindustan Motors discontinued the production of Ambassador due to falling sales and raising debts in 2014.

    India test fired Interceptor Missile successfully off the Odisha coast on 11th Feb 2017. This missile was launched from Abdul Kalam island of ITR at about 7:45am.

    • This test led India to be a part of those four exclusive nations that have the capabilities of protecting its skies and cities against the hostile threats.

    • India’s Ballistic Missile Shield (BMD)is being developedby the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO)with an approach of two layered system to handle incoming targets at endo and exo-atmosphere.

    World Radio Day observed on - 13th February 2017

    On 13th February 2017, World Radio Day was observed across the globe. Theme of this year was "Radio and You".

    Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2017 passed by - Legislative Assembly of Karnataka

    On 13th February 2017, Legislative Assembly of Karnataka passed a bill on cruelty of Animals.

    Things to know :

    • This amendment was required to exempt the conduct of bullock cart racing for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960.

    • State High Court banned the sports after receiving a petition from PETA. 

    • Kambala committees and other Kannada organizations in the coastal districts of the statestarted protest against this ban.
