    New Election Law approved by Syrian lawmakers

    Among the imortant international current affairs, Syrian lawmakers unanimously approved a new election law on 13th march 2014. This new law which was passed in parliament of Syria will allow multiple candidates to run for the post of President.

    This passage of the law has opened the doors for other contenders apart from President Bashar Assad. Only that candidates will be eligible to run for Presidential election who have lived in Syria for minimum of 10 consecutive years so this law prevents exiled opposition leaders from running against President Bashar al-Assad. 

    Important to note : 

    • The Presidential polls will be held between 60 and 90 days before the end of term of Bashar Assad. 
    • Bashar Assad's seven-year term in the office of the President will officially come to an end on 17 July 2014.

    Nandan Nilekani resigned as chairman of UIDAI

    Infosys co-founder Mr. Nandan Nilekani resigned as Chairman of UIDAI three days after joining congress. He will be contesting Lok Sabha polls from Banglore south. He has submitted his resignation to Prime minister Manmohan Singh.

    Important to note : 

    • Full form of UIDAI  : Unique Identification Authority of India.
    • Mr. Nilekani will be fighting against five-time BJP MP Ananth Kumar in south Banglore.
    • Aadhar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government of India under Aadhar Programme.
    • Aadhar programme comes under the Planning Commission headed by the Prime Minister.

    Trade transaction limit hiked from 2 Lakh to 5 Lakh by RBI

    This is important news among banking current affairs that, RBI has hiked the trade related remittance limit from Rs 2 Lakh to 5 Lakh per transaction with immediate effect.

    RBI decided to increase the limit of trade transactions on a review of the permitted transactions under the Rupee Drawing Arrangements (RDAs).  These changes have been included in Memorandum of Instructions for Opening and Maintenance of Rupee/Foreign Currency Vostro Accounts of Non-resident Exchange Houses.

    Meanwhile, RBI said the government has notified the repurchase of its securities through reverse auction for an aggregate amount of Rs 15,000 crore (face value).

    Asian Grand Prix - Indian archers win 2 gold, one silver

    In the ongoing 1st Asian Grand Prix Archery Championships at Bangkok Indian archers clinched 2 gold and 1 silver medals in the team events on 13th March 2014.

    The women compound team included Gagandeep Kaur, V Jyothi Surekha and P Lily Chanu won gold.

    In the Men’s Recurve, the team of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Kapil won gold.

    Indian team of Abhishek Verma, Sandeep Kumar and Rajat Chouhan won silver in the Men’s compound section.

    Important to note :

    1st Asian Archery Grand Prix 2014 (World Ranking) is being organised in Bangkok from 10 March to 16 March 2014. The event has been organised following the World Archery Rules for 2012 in both divisions Recurve and Compound.
