    Name of Indian scholar who was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Canberra University - H Deep Saini

    On 9th March 2016, Noted Indian scholar and plant physiologist H Deep Saini was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the prestigious University of Canberra. On the time of appointment he was working as Vice-President of the University of Toronto and Principal of the University of Toronto Mississauga campus in Canada.

    He is also a serving member of NSERC's Biological Systems and Functions grant selection panel.

    World Consumer Rights Day - 15th March

    World Consumer Rights Day was observed on 15th March across the globe. It is a yearly event which is observed with an aim to provide opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers.

    Theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2016 was "Antibiotics off the menu", which was meant to stop the sale of meat raised with the use of antibiotics important to human medicine.

    YES Bank inked MoU with -  India Brazil Chamber

    Among Important banking current affairs, On 11th March 2016, India's private sector bank Yes Bank inked MoU with India Brazil Chamber of Commerce (IBCC). This MoU was inked with an aim to enable significant cooperation in terms of knowledge partnerships, project consultancy, B2B opportunities, skill and technology initiatives.

    Who was elected as first civilian President of Myanmar - Htin Kyaw

    Among Important International Current Affairs, On 15th March 2016, Mr. Htin Kyaw was elected as first civilian president of Myanmar. He was elected by Myanmar's Parliament after long 53 years of military rule. 

    He got 360 out of 652 votes to be elected. Myint Swe received 213 votes and Henry Van Thio got 79 votes, who will be serving as first vice president and second vice president respectively.

    Which programme will enable Students to act as Tourist Facilitators - Parytak Mitra

    On 14th March 2016, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (I/C) Dr. Mahesh Sharma provided information in Lok Sabha about Parytak Mitra Programme. The programme was launched by Union Ministry of Tourism on 12 January 2016 (National Youth Day) to inculcate appropriate tourism traits and knowledge amongst the trainees to enable them to act/work as Tourist Facilitators (Prayatak Mitra).

    Which firm was selected by India Post as consultant for payments bank - Deloitte

    On 14th March 2016, India Post signed agreement with Deloitte, as India Post selected Deloitte to advise it on setting up payments bank. Now this proposal will be sent to Union cabinet for approval. India Post is doing it with an aim to target customers in rural, semi-rural and remote areas, with a focus on providing simple deposit products and money remittance services.

    Important to mention here that Public Investment Board (PIB) has already approved the 800-crore rupees proposal of India Post. It is expected to start from Jan 2017 as pilot project and will be fully operational in March 2017.

    Pope Francis announced whose name to be granted Sainthood - Mother Teresa

    On 15th March 2017, It was announced by Pope Francis that Mother Teresa will be made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church. This ceremony will be on 4th September 2016.
