    Name the place which has become country’s first ever carbon neutral district - Majuli 

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Assam government has launched ‘Sustainable Action for Climate Resilient Development in Majuli’ (SACReD, Majuli) to make river island Majuli country’s first ever Carbon Neutral district by 2020. 

    However, this project has been initiated by Assam’s department of Environment and Forest to combat climate change and also to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

    Here, it presents a vision and roadap for a carbon netural Majuli.

    Which word has been added in Oxford English Dictionary – Brexit

    Among Important International Current Affairs, The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has been officially added word ‘Brexit’ in it. 

    However, the word ‘Brexit’ is among 1,500 new words added to the OED. The OED has defined word ‘Brexit’ as “the (proposed) withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, and the political process associated with it”. 

    While, another popular new coinage is the word ‘YouTubers’ was also added in OED. It has been defined as “frequent user of the video-sharing website YouTube, especially someone who produces and appears in videos on the site.”

    IAF personnel cannot keep beard - SC

    Among Important National Current Affairs, the Supreme Court ordered that IAF which means Indian Air force personnel cannot keep beard. 

    However, it held that Central Government’s decision to ban beards in the IAF does not infringe upon fundamental rights.

    The court had also pronounced the judgment on an appeal by Mohammed Zubair, who was recruited as Airman in the IAF and was sacked for growing beard even after being denied permission.

    ICFA presents ‘Global Agriculture leadership Award 2016’ to - Ratan Tata

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) on 15th December 2016 presented ‘Global Agriculture leadership Award 2016’ to Tata Sons interim Chairman Ratan Tata in Mumbai.

    However, according to ICFA the leadership Awards jury conferred on Tata the ‘lifetime Achievements Award 2016’ for his transformational role in scaling Tata Group as the globally admired group during his stint of two decades as Chairman.

    Here, the leadership Awards Jury is chaired by Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, pioneer of India’s Green Revolution. As ICFA said clearly that they have decided to confer upon Ratan Tata the lifetime Achievements Award 2016… for his overall contributions spanning over five decades through industry-led development of the Indian economy and agriculture, which positively impacted the lives of millions of people in India and globally.

    Which two countries Joint Military Exercise Commences in Maldives - Indo- Maldives

    Among Important International Current Affairs, a 14 days joint training exercise of the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force has commenced today with the Opening Ceremony at Kadhdhoo, Lammu Atoll in Maldives.

    However, the training contingents comprised of platoon strength from BIHAR Regiment and a similar strength of the Maldivian National Defence Force.

    Here, senior military observers of both the countries will be witnessing the validation phase of the Exercise.

    Who has become Nigeria’s UN Deputy Secretary-General - Amina Mohammed

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 15th December 2016 new UN Secretary-General António Guterres finally announced Nigeria’s Environment minister, Amina Mohammed as his Deputy Secretary-General. 

    However, Guterres made the announcement through the spokesman of the Secretary-General, Mr Stephane Dujarric.

    According to reports, Guterres also announced the duo of Ms. Maria Viotti of Brazil and Ms. Kyung-wha Kang of the Republic of Korea into high-profile positions at the UN.
