    Regional meeting of World Customs Organisation being held in - Jaipur

    4 days regional meeting of World Customs Organisation was organised in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was appeared by associates of 33-member nations of Asia. The meeting was mutually led by World Customs Organisation Deputy Secretary General Ricardo Travino and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Chairman S Ramesh.
    Important Points

    • The meeting pondered upon numerous matters including the steps essential for the capacity building and improvements in customs.
    • It also discoursed and considered upon revised Kyoto protocol, digital customs, e-commerce among other matters.
    • Summary of several efforts made by National Trade Facilitation Committee for trade simplification was also scheduled in the meeting.
      World Customs Organisation
    • World Customs Organisation is autonomous inter-governmental organisation whose mission is to
      improve effectiveness and efficiency of Customs supervisions.
    • It was recognized in 1952 as Customs Co-operation Council.
    • It is the only International firm with competence in Customs issues and is considered as voice of International Customs communal.
    • It signifies 182 Customs managements across the globe that cooperatively process about 98 percent of world trade.
    • It is HQ in Brussels, Belgium. It entertains leading role in discussion, expansion, promotion
      and implementation of modern customs systems and actions.
      Objectives
    • It goals to improve proficiency and effectiveness of member customs managements and support them to contribute magnificently to national expansion goals, particularly revenue collection, national security, employment facilitation, community defense, and collection of trade statistics.
      Organisational Structure
      World Customs Organisation’s governing body trusts on competence and skills of World Customs
      Organisation Secretariat and a range of technical and advisory committees to achieve its mission. The Secretariat includes more than 100 International bureaucrats, technical specialists and support staff of some nationalities. World Customs Organisation has sectored its membership into 6 regions whereby each region is represented by designated vice-chairperson to World Customs Organisation Council. 

    E-learning portal ‘NIPUN’ for training its personnel launched by - Delhi Police

    Delhi Police has released an e-learning portal “Nipun” to communicate training and provide up to date
    data to police officers. The creativity is intended at conveying in-service online training and statistics to
    Police Personnel via specialised courses accessible online which have been intended by experts in
    various fields.

    • The online courses on this online portal have been intended in association with UGC, FICCI, NHRC,
      NCPCR and Janaki Devi Memorial College, Delhi University under project CLAP- “The Collaborative Learning and Partnership”. Delhi Legal Service Authority has also concurred to be partner in evolving specific courses for the Delhi Police.
    • It will have online courses and resources on law, standing orders, investigation specifications, case files forms, latest High Court and Supreme Court verdicts. It is intended that Investigating Officers will be talented to take advantage of this data during course of their duty/case handling.
    • Through this online portal Delhi Police officers can now access data by just logging-in the portal.
    • They can entertain course from anywhere anytime. It will make easier for the police officer to enhance their skills and re-enforce their knowledge while balancing training time along with their daily routine task.

    Athlete Hima Das appointed first Youth Ambassador of - UNICEF India

    India’s ace sprinter and Asian Games Gold Medal winner sprinter Hima Das was selected as 1st ever youth ambassador of UN Children’s Fund India. UNICEF India works with central government to make sure that each child born in nation gets best start-up in life, thrives and develops to his/her complete
    potential.
    Recently, Hima secured a Gold medal in Women's 4x400m relay event at the 2018 Asian Games,
    organised from August 18th-September 2nd, 2018 at Jakarta, Indonesian. She also secured Silver in the
    Women's 400 metres Race event with a clock timing of 50.59 seconds.

    • Addressing from Nagaon district of Assam, Hima Das took-up serious running in 2017.
    • In July 2018, Hima scripted history by being the 1st Indian woman athlete to secure a Gold Medal in the women's 400 metres final race at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland. 
    • With the victory at IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championship, Das became the 1st Indian woman, be it junior/ senior, to secure a gold medal at any level in a World Championship. 
    • She is also the 1st Indian woman to secure a Gold medal at any athletics meet at the World level.
    • Hima Das had previously clocked an Indian U-20 record of 51.32s to finish 6th in the Commonwealth Games 400 metres final in Gold Coast in April 2018.
    • With a nickname of Dhing Express, Hima was among the 20 players to be endorsed for the Arjuna Award.
    • In October 2018, Hima amalgamated Indian Oil Corporation as a Grade ‘A’ HR Officer.

    Department of Biotechnology, Cancer Research UK sign MoU on - 14th November 2018

    The Department of Biotechnology of India and Cancer Research United Kingdom on November 14th, 2018 inked a MoU for the India-UK Cancer Research Initiative.
    The India-UK Cancer Research Enterprise is a cooperative 5 years bilateral Research initiative by the
    Department of Biotechnology under Union Ministry of Science and Technology and Cancer Research
    United Kingdom.
    The Initiative was released at the Inaugural Researchers’ Summit, which was organised in New Delhi from  November 14th to November 16th, 2018.
    India-UK Cancer Research Initiative
    The India-United Kingdom Cancer Research Initiative will emphasis on inexpensive approaches to cancer.
    Both Cancer Research United Kingdom and Department of Biotechnology will spend five million pounds each in this pilot project and will pursue further investment from other potential funding associates.
    The initiative will classify a core set of research trials that address matters of affordability, prevention and care of cancer by bringing together leading Indian and United Kingdom specialists.
    Importance
    The India-United Kingdom Cancer Research Initiative delivers a chance to handle the global epidemic of
    cancer by opening fresh paths for International data exchange and research base. 
    The research conclusions of this initiative will support cancer prevention, control and management in the long term.

    Winter Session of Parliament to be held from  - 11thDec 2018 to Jan 08, 2019

    The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has suggested convening Parliament winter session
    from December 11th, 2018 to January 8th, 2019. The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs was
    led by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and meeting in New Delhi and talked on the dates of the
    session. The winter session of Parliament regularly initiates every year after Monsoon Session in
    November. However, from last 2 years in a row, it is commencement in December. The session has been
    overdue present year due to assembly elections in 5 states.
