    Who is elected as leader of Labour Party in UK - Jeremy Corbyn

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 12th September 2015, Jeremy Corbyn was elected as the leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom. As a ressult upon this election, he also became the leader of the opposition in the House of Commons.

    The election was the result of the resignation of Ed Miliband from the post following defeat of the party in the 2015 general election.

    Since 1983, Corbyn has been the member of the parliament representing the Islington North constituency.

    First-ever country special cell IRRC to speed up defence ties with India was has been established by - Pentagon

    In September 2015. IRRC stands for India Rapid Reaction Cell has been established by Pentagon to entirely focus on advancing Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI).

    It is headed by Keith Webster, Director of International Cooperation Office of the Under Secretary of Defence for Acquisition, Technology and LogisticsPentagon’s and is also the first-ever country special cell.

    Since its inception, the cell has been involved in accelerating projects under DTII. DTII looks to co-develop and co-produce military equipment in six pathfinder projects. These include among others

    Who has been appointed to Shadow Cabinet in UK - Indian-Origin Lawmakers Seema Malhotra and Lisa Nandy

    In third week of September 2015, Indian-origin British Members of Parliament (MPs), Seema Malhotra and Lisa Nandy, were appointed as to the shadow cabinet of Jeremy Corbyn, the newly-elected leader of Labour Party in the United Kingdom (UK).

    Nandy was appointed as shadow secretary for energy and climate change while Malhotra was appointed as the shadow chief secretary for Treasury.

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 14th September 2015, the United Nations Champions of the Earth Award for Policy Leadership to address the issue of climate change was won by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

    She has signified leadership in making climate change an issue of national priority and promoting for an ambitious global response. UNEP noted that Bangladesh is one of the most unguarded countries to the impacts of climate change.

    However, Bangladesh has successfully tackled the challenge of climate change at the core of its development through a number of forward-looking policy initiatives and investments. The award reproduce the progressive Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan of 2009.

    Their action plan has made them the first South Asian nation developing country to temper such a coordinated action plan and is also the first country to set up its own Climate Change Trust Fund, supported by nearly 300 million US dollars of domestic resources from 2009-2012.

    Victim Compensation Scheme has been approved by - Delhi government

    On 15th September 2015, Victim Compensation Scheme was approved by Delhi Government. It incresed the upper limit of compensation to victims of acid attack to 7 lakh rupees from 3 lakh rupees and rape victims to 5 lakh rupees from existing 3 lakh rupees.

    Main highlights of Victim Compensation Scheme

    • The scheme includes the victims of gang-rape, unnatural sexual offences and burns.
    • Prior to this scheme, victim’s kin were eligible to get a compensation of 3 to 5 lakh rupees for loss of life, but the new scheme has proposed 5 to 10 lakh rupees.
    • Apart from this, the scheme also introduced same amount of compensation for those with loss of any limb resulting in 80 percent permanent disability.

    Who has been shortlisted for Man Booker Prize 2015 - British-Indian Sunjeev Sahota

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 15th September 2015, British-Indian author Sunjeev Sahota was shortlisted for the prestigious Man Booker International Prize, 2015.

    Sahota's novel The Year of the Runaways, his second novel, centres around the lives of 13 Indian men who live in a house in Sheffield, each in desperate search of a new life.

    Tarlochan, a former rickshaw driver, will say nothing about his past in Bihar; and Avtar has a secret that binds him to protect the chaotic Randeep. Randeep, in turn, has a visa-wife in a flat on the other side of town: a clever, devout woman whose cupboards are full of her husband's clothes, in case the immigration men surprise her with a call.

    Who has been chosen for Champions of Change Award in US - Indian-American Swetha Prabakaran

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 15th September 2015, Swetha Prabhakaran, an Indian American teen, was awarded with the prestigious Champions of Change Award of US at the White House in recognition of her efforts for empowering the community by imparting education of Internet coding through her non-profit Organisation.

    She founded a non-profit organisation Everybody Code Now! to empower the next generation of youth to become engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs.

    Thousands of dollars for STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) activities in schools has been raised by this organisation.
