    On 15th September which day is observed all over the world - International Democracy Day

    Among International Current Affairs, every year on 15th September, The International Democracy Day is being observed with an aim to raise public awareness about the democratic system. 

    However, the observance of the day provides an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world. Also it focuses on essential elements of democracy which includes, values of freedom, respect for human rights and principle of holding periodic and genuine elections by universal suffrage. 

    This year 2016 Theme was - “Democracy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development“. 

    To mark this day various government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the world are holding various activities and events to promote democracy.

    Sharing of Aadhaar details banned by – UIDAI

    Among Important National Current Affairs, sharing of Aadhaar details is now banned by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). 

    UIDAI has asked agencies in possession of Aadhaar number of an individual to not publish or post the information publicly.

    However, it said that the agencies will have to ensure security and confidentiality of the 12-digit resident identification number under the Aadhaar Act.

    Calcutta Football League 2016 won by - East Bengal

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 16th September 2016 for the seventh consecutive time Indian football giants East Bengal won the Calcutta Football League (CFL).

    The team won this game by defeating Mohammedan Sporting 1-0 at the Kalyani Stadium.

    However, East Bengal bettered its own record of winning it six times straight from 1970 to 1975.

    Indo-US combined which military exercise begins - Yudh Abhyas 2016

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Yudh Abhyas 2016, which is a joint military training exercise of Indian and US Armies, commenced at Chaubattia, Uttarakhand.

    However, company strength army personnel from USA and an equal number of Indian soldiers are taking part in the two weeks long joint training exercise. 

    Here, the exercise will see them hone their tactical and technical skills in countering insurgency and terrorism in a UN Peace Keeping scenario involving a combined deployment at a Brigade level.

    Who has been appointed as a Director of Research Centre Imarat - BHVS Narayana Murthy

    Among Important National Current Affairs, in the second week of September 2016 BHVS Narayana Murthy, who is an expert in Avionics, was appointed as Director of Research Centre Imarat (RCI).

    The RCI is known to be a premiere Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory, which is located in Hyderabad.

    US sign 38 billion dollars defence deal with – Israel

    Among Important International Current Affairs, United States has finally signed a 38 billion dollars Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Israel to provide the country with military assistance over a 10-year period. 

    However, the MoU will be valid from 2019 through 2028. 

    Please Note: This defence deal is known to be the largest such agreement the US has ever had with any country.

    Reliance Communications will be merged with – Aircel

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Anil Ambani led Reliance Communications (RCom) has finally signed a deal with Maxis Communications Berhad (MCB) for merger of wireless businesses of Aircel Limited with itself. 

    However, the merger is considered as the largest-ever consolidation in the Indian telecom sector. 

    Here, the merged entity will be country’s fourth-largest phone company in terms of customers and revenue.
