    Who has been elected as House speaker of Nepal - Onsari Gharti Magars

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 16th October 2015, Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) candidate Onsari Gharti Magar was elected as the House speaker of Nepal and became the first female Speaker in the parliamentary history of Nepal.

    Earlier she had served as Minister for Youth and Sports in the Nepal Cabinet led by Jhala Nath Khanal and also as the former Deputy Speaker.

    CPN-UML lawmaker Bidya Devi Bhandari and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal proposed the name of Onsari.

    Besides this, Ganga Prasad Yadav, Rastriya Prajatantra Party's Nepal lawmaker was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

    Which two countries have signed agreement to build 1100 km Gas Pipeline - Pakistan & Russia

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 16th October 2015, an agreement to build a 1100-km gas pipeline stretching from Karachi on Arabian Sea to the eastern city of Lahore was inked between Pakistan and Russia. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Pakistan Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi signed the agreement.

    RT Global Resources, a subsidiary of Russian state corporation Rostec will built the gas pipeline with 2 billion US dollars invested by Russia.

    Highlights of the Gas Pipeline

    • It will be owned and operated by the manufacturer for 25 years and after that it will be handed over to the Pakistan government.
    • The pipeline has the capacity of 12.4 billion cubic metres (438 billion cubic feet) per year and is 1100-kilometre (680-mile) long.
    • The pipeline will connect Karachi’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals with those in Lahore.

    Which two countries have signed a deal to build high-speed railway in Indonesia - China & Indonesia

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 16th October 2015, a 5.5 billion US dollars deal was finalized between China and Indonesia to build the first high-speed railway in Indonesia after the victory of Beijing in winning the construction project by beating Tokyo.

    The project will be implemented by a consortium of Indonesian state companies and state-owned China Railway International. In the regard, the chairman of state-owned China Railway International, Yang Zhongmin, signed a deal with a consortium of Indonesian state companies to form a joint venture to build the railway.

    Highlights of the Deal

    • 75 % of the funding will be given by State-owned China Development Bank and the remaining will be borned by the Chinese railway company and Indonesian consortium.
    • The railway line will connect the Indonesian capital Jakarta with the mountain-fringed city of Bandung.
    • A total of 8 stations will be covered by the train route from Jakarta to Bandung, and the train will travel at around 250 kilometres (150 miles) an hour.

    Name the online fashion store launched by Aditya Birla Group - Abof.com

    On 16th October 2015, a new online fashion store Abof.com was launched by The Aditya Birla Group.

    Abof (all about fashion) is a one-stop fashion portal for both men and women apparel, footwear and accessories.

    This online fashion store Abof.com will compete with the likes of Myntra, a Flipkart unit, and Rocket Internet-backed Jabong. Abof.com will be privately held by Birla in his personal capacity.

    Who has been appointed as the CMD of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd - MK Surana

    Among the important appointments, On 16th October 2015, MK Surana was appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of state-run oil marketer Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL). He will replace Nishi Vasudeva who will retire in March 2016.

    Currently, Surana is serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Prize Petroleum Co, the oil exploration arm of HPCL. He has been executive director with HPCL since September 2012 and will get a five year term that can be extended up to his retirement age of 60 years in April 2022.

    Earlier, he had also served as the General Manager of Projects for Vishaka Refinery of HPCL. Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) approved the appointment of Surana.

    International Day for the Eradication of Poverty observed on - 17th October

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 17th October 2015, The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was observed globally with the theme "Building a sustainable future: Coming together to end poverty and discrimination".

    This year the day is a special one, as it comes on the heels of the adoption of Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This Agenda succeeds the Millennium Development Goals, contains 17 ambitious goals basically to end poverty in all its forms everywhere.

    Since 1993, The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed every year, when the United Nations General Assembly, by its resolution 47/196, announced this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries.
