    Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar’s statue launched in – Haridwar

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 19th December 2016 Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat launched the renowned statue of Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar on the premises of Mela Bhawan in Haridwar. 

    Thiruvalluvar is a well known poet believed to have lived between 3rd century BC and 1st century BC.

    Which two countries has signed 6 agreements in various fields - India and Kyrgyzstan

    Among Important International Cuurent Affairs, India and Kyrgyzstan have signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)/ Agreements including in the fields of tourism, agriculture and food industry etc. 

    However, these agreements were signed after delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Sharshenovich Atambayev in New Delhi. 

    Besides this, both the leaders also issued joint statement. 

    Who has been appointed as a 44th chief justice of India – Justice J S Khehar

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 19th December 2016, Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar has been appointed as the 44th chief justice of India by the President Pranab Mukherjee. 

    On 4th January, 2016 Justice J S Khehar will be seen handling the responsibility of the Chief Justice of India.  While, Justice T S Thakur will retire on 3rd January, 2017 after tenure of a year. 

    Please Note: Justice Khehar will be the first Chief Justice of India from the Sikh community.

    Huge dead zone discovered in - Bay of Bengal  

    Among Important National Current Affairs, scientists including those from India have found a huge ‘dead zone’ of an estimated 60,000 square kilometres in Bay of Bengal. 

    However, this area is said to supports microbial processes that will remove vast amount of nitrogen from the ocean. 

    This study was published in Nature Geosciences.

    PM lays foundation stone of country’s first Indian Institute of Skills in - Kanpur  

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of the country’s first Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in the state Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh with an aim to make India the Skill Capital of the World. 

    PM Modi also inaugurated the Kaushal Pradarshini (Skill Exhibition) for the youth of Uttar Pradesh to portray major skill development initiatives of the Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry.
