    Governor’s Rule imposed in Jammu and Kashmir, as approved by - President Ram Nath Kovind

    President Ram Nath Kovind has given his approval to execution of Governor’s rule in J&K. This is the 8th time in the past 4 decades Jammu and Kashmir has been under Governor’s rule and 3rd time under Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N.Vohra time period.
    Key Points

    • Presidential consent was received following Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N.Vohra passed his report to President commending execution of Governor’s rule in the state following PDP-BJP government malformed with BJP finishing the 3 years old association with PDP, prior to conclusion of 6 years tenure of the present Assembly which was going to finish in March, 2021.
    • None of the other major political parties showed their interest in continuing any alliance for government in the state.
    • With Governor’s rule, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has been put under suspension.

    • In case of disappointment of constitutional body in any Indian state, President Rule is executed under Article 356 of the Constitution.
    • But in case of Jammu and Kashmir, according to Section 92 of state Constitution, Governor’s Rule is executed in the state only after the harmony of the President of India. During this, State Assembly is either suspended or dissolved.
    • If the Constitutional machinery is not reinstated earlier to the expiry of this 6 months period, the provision of Article 356 of the Constitution of India is prolonged to Jammu and Kashmir and the President’s rule is executed in the State.

    RBI revises housing loan limits under Priority Sector Lending on - 19th June 2018

    The RBI reviewed the increasing housing loan limits under Priority Sector Lending, on June 19 th , 2018. The housing loan restrictions were reviewed to bring union of the Priority Sector Lending rules for housing loans with the Affordable Housing Scheme of the Union Government and to provide an impetus to low-cost housing for the EWS and low-income sections. Priority Sector Lending loans are relatively inexpensive than market interest rate.
    Key Highlights

    • Housing loans of up to Rupees 35 lakhs for residential purpose estimate less than Rupees 45 lakhs will now be considered as Priority Sector Lending to boost the low-costing group.
    • The housing loan limitations for suitability under PSL will be reviewed to Rupees 35 lakhs in Metropolitan centres and to Rupees 25 lakhs in other centres.
    • However, for being stated as priority section, the total cost of the residence in the metropolitan centre with population of 10 lakh and above and at other centres should not go beyond Rupees 45 lakhs and Rupees 30 lakhs, correspondingly.
    • The present family income limit of Rupees two lakhs annually for getting the loans for housing projects for Economically Weaker Sections and Low-Income Groups now altered to Rupees three lakhs annually and Rupees six lakhs annually, correspondingly.
    • These upgradations have been done according to the salary criteria specified under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

    World’s first International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics launched in Gujarat on - 20th June 2018

    The World's 1st state-of-the-art International Centre for “Humanitarian Forensics” was initiated on June 20th , 2018, at the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The centre is a combined venture of the Regional Designation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in India, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Gujarat Forensic Science University.
    Key Highlights

    • The centre will help humanitarian efforts during crises and natural disasters like the work done by Red Cross during the Gujarat Earthquake.
    • It would not only aid in honorable and proper management of the dead bodies during disasters but also in their credentials.
    • The combined project signifies how humanitarian work will look like in upcoming time. It will join local and international proficiency to build capacities beforehand disasters hit people.
    • The Centre will carry out different academic and professional programmes, research and deliver technical proficiency to support operations in the field of humanitarian forensics.
    • The Gujarat Forensic Sciences University will operate various courses both PGs and PG-diploma courses in Humanitarian Forensics.
