    Union Cabinet approves establishment of which hospital at Gorakhpur – AIIMS

    Among Important National Current Affairs, finally The Union Cabinet has given its approval for establishment of new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). 

    Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), it is going to be established with an aim at correcting imbalances in the availability of affordable healthcare facilities in different parts of country and also augmenting facilities for quality medical education in under-served states.

    Do You Know - 

    • The AIIMS, Gorakhpur will be one of the best hospitals there with capacity of 750 beds which will include Emergency/Trauma Beds, AYUSH Beds, Super Speciality beds and Private Beds and ICU Speciality.

    • Also it will have an Administration Block, Auditorium, AYUSH Block, Night Shelter, residential facilities and Hostels too. 

    • For establishment of the new AIIMS in Gorakhpur, the cost of project will be 1011 crore rupees. It does not include recurring costs (wages, salaries and operation & maintenance expenses).

    Kerala Government constitutes State Technical Advisory Group on – Immunisation

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 20th July 2016 The Kerala State Government constituted a State Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (STAGI) on the lines of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI).

    The Group is all set to give advice to the State government on the policies and practices to be adopted and implemented under the National Immunisation Programme.

    Do You Know -

    • State Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (STAGI) will be seen providing technical and academic inputs and leadership in the State’s immunisation efforts.

    • STAGI will also be responsible for timely recommendations on the choice of vaccines to be included and modifications on current guidelines, which is based on surveillance data available in the state. 

    NDMC signs MoU with which institute to develop sewage treatment plants - NEERI

    On 21st July 2016, The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) to develop about 12 sewage treatment plants (STP).

    However, this project will definitely going to help to increase the green cover in NDMC areas and curb dust pollution.

    According to WMO, which year set to be the world's hottest year on record – 2016

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 21st July 2016 The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) declared that global temperatures for the first six months of 2016 broke many records. Year 2016 is on the track to be the world's hottest year on record.

    According to the WMO, Arctic Sea ice melted early and fast, which is another indicator of climate change. In addition to this, Carbon dioxide levels have also reached new highs.

    Know About WMO – 

    • WMO, which is known as The World Meteorological Organization, is an intergovernmental organization with a membership of 191 Member States and Territories. In 1873, it was originated from the International Meteorological Organization (IMO).

    • In 1950, WMO was established and became the specialised agency of the United Nations for meteorology (weather and climate), operational hydrology and related geophysical sciences.

    Who is appointed as CEO of UIDAI - Ajay Bhushan Pandey

    On 21st July 2016, The Union Government announced Ajay Bhushan Pandey as the Chief Executive Officer of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

    However, The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet finally approved the promotion of Pandey with effect from 12th July 2016.

    Please Note: Under Pandey’s tenure, UIDAI will have to deal with the legal cases involving privacy and parliamentary issues that Aadhaar has been embroiled in.

    How many Indian companies ranked on 2016 Fortune 500 lists - 7 

    On 21st July 2016, The Fortune Global 500 list of the world's biggest firms of the year 2016 was released. Here, seven Indian companies were featured in the list with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) who ranked highest at 161st rank with revenues of 54.7 billion US dollars.

    However, seven Indian companies have made it to the latest Fortune 500 list of the world’s biggest corporations in terms of revenue. Fortune 500 lists is meant to be an annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest companies, compiled and published by the American business magazine Fortune and published globally by Time Inc. 

    Lok Sabha passes Bill for new NIT in - Andhra Pradesh

    The Lok Sabha has finally gave the green signal to the National Institute of Technology, Science, Education and Research (Amendment) (NITSER) Bill, 2016. 

    This bill is meant to establish a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in the state Andhra Pradesh as an institute of national importance under the NITSER Act, 2007 with an effect from August 2015.
