    BCCI appoints whom as the head coach of Indian Cricket Team - Anil Kumble

    Anil Kumble Indian Cricket CoachAmong Important Sports Current Affairs, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former spinner Anil Kumble as the Indian Cricket Team head coach. 

    Anil Kumble will have tenure of one year. 

    However, Anil Kumble decision selection was taken in the BCCI working committee meeting in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. 

    Before him, the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly and VVS Laxman had proposed his name after interviewing 57 candidates. 

    Anil Kumble’s first assignment will be India’s four-Test tour of West Indies, as a head coach of Indian Cricket Team.

    Know About Anil Kumble – 

    • Anil Kumble, former Indian cricketer who also captained the team. He took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker.  

    • Anil Kumble is not known as a big turner of the ball, rather relied much on pace and accuracy. His ability to make the ball bounce with subtle variations in pace made him a tough bowler to face for the batsmen.

    Union Government launches India’s first pilot programme to run two wheelers on - CNG 

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Union Government has taken a good step and launched a pilot programme to run two wheelers on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in New Delhi. 

    Main aim of this programme is to curb air pollution in cities. 

    The project was launched by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar jointly at the CGO Complex CNG station.

    UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced resignation after - Brexit vote

    David CameronAmong Important International Current Affairs, on 24 June 2016 The Prime Minister of United Kingdom David Cameron declared his resignation hours after the Brexit vote that favoured leaving the European Union (EU).

    During this campaign, Cameron-led Conserve Party advocated for remaining with the EU. In the referendum that was held on 23 June 2016, 51.89 percent of the voters preferred to leave the EU.

    Around 46.5 million people who registered to vote, only 48.11 percent voted to remain in the grouping. 

    However, the result must still be approved by the UK Parliament to become more effective.

    IIT-Kanpur professor Sanjay Mittal has been awarded with - 2015 GD Birla Award

    Sanjay Mittal has been also bestowed with this award for his significant contributions have been in the area of Mechanics.

    • Sanjay Mittal is a Professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. 

    • Sanjay Mittal was instrumental in establishing the High Performance Computing (HPC) facility at IIT Kanpur. Along with this he also heads the National Wind Tunnel Facility. 

    Which country votes to exit European Union in historic referendum – Britain

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 24 June 2016 people of Britain in a historic referendum voted in favour of leaving European Union (EU). 

    The referendum ‘to leave’ or ‘to be a member’ of EU saw 51.9% votes in favour compared to 48.1% in against. 

    However, referendum turnout was higher than at last year 2015 general election.

    Northern Ireland, London and Scotland voted strongly to stay back with the EU while the Wales and the English shires backed Britain exit (Brexit) from the EU.

    Name of first 1000-processor computer chip - KiloCore

    In June 2016, Scientists of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of University of California developed first 1000 processor microchip and named it as KiloCore.
    It has 1000 independent programmable processors on it which can execute 115 billion instructions per second. IBM fabricated this chip using 32nm CMOS technology.
    Its roughly 100 times faster than currently available laptops.
