Kailash Satyarthi honoured with - P C Chandra Puraskaar 2017

On 23rd April 2017, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi was presented with P C Chandra Puraskar for his efforts against child slavery and exploitative child labour. 

He was presented with a trophy , a citation and cash amount of 10 lakh at a ceremony held in Kolkata.

• Kailash Satyarthi has founded Bachpan Bachao Andolan, which works for rights of children from 144 countries.
• He was honoured with Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. Important to mention here he shared this prize with Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan.

Who won Monte Carlo Masters Men’s Singles title - Rafael Nadal

On 23rd April 2017, Rafael Nadal won Monte Carlo Masters Men’s Singles title after defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas by 6-1 6-3.

He won this event 10 times thus became first man in open era to do so.

Who won Monte-Carlo Masters Men’s Doubles title - Rohan Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas 

On 23rd April 2017, Rohan Bopanna from India and Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay won Monte-Carlo Masters Men’s Doubles title.

They defeated Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez by 6-3, 3-6, 10-4. After winning this title they earned 1000 points in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings along with € 253950 in prize money.

Saudi Arabia King's son Prince Khaled appointed as - US Envoy

On 22nd April 2017, A royal decree was issued by Saudi Arabia's King Salman stating the appointment of his son Prince Khaled bin Salman bin Abdulaziz as the Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the United States (US).

Prince Khaled is a former F-15 pilot and he also took part strikes in 2014 in US led coalition.

Gwadar port of Pakistan leased for 40 years to - China Overseas Port Holding Company

In April 2017, Pakistan Government leased the operations of its Gwadar port to the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC) for 40 years. This port has very strategic significance. This port is situated in Balochistan province of Pakistan. Though in 2013 this company took over operations of this port.

China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC) will have 91% share in revenue collection from gross revenue of terminal and marine operations while it will have 85% share from gross revenue of free zone operation.

Important to mention here that before China this port was with Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) International of  Singapore.

Using this port China can easily transport fuel into northwestern China. It will help China in importing oil and gas safely and above all its has many security advatages to China.

Who has been appointed as new DGP of Uttar Pradesh - Sulkhan Singh

On 21st April 2017, IPS officer Sulkhan Singh was appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh. He is 1980 batch IPS Officer and was currently serving in the Training Department of UP police.

He succeeds Javeed Ahmed for this top post as Javeed Ahmed has been transferred as the Director General of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary.

Important to mention here that this reshuffle in bureaucratic appointments is happening after new Govt was elected in UP.

Which film won Best Film prize at Hong Kong Film Festival - Newton

In April 2017, Film Newtom won best film award at 41st Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF). 

This movie is directed by Amit Masurkar and Rajkummar is playing a lead role is this. It is a political satire.
