    First ever Water Metro project in the country has been launched by - Kerala Government

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Kerala Government has launched Kochi Water Metro project, which is the first ever Water Metro project in the country. 

    Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Kochi launched this project with an aims to provide water connectivity to people living between islands in the Kochi agglomeration area and the city. 

    Do You Know -

    • Kochi Water Metro project is known to be an integrated water transport project developed as feeder service to the Kochi Metro Rail. 

    • This Project will become operational in almost two years. By the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), the project will be implemented. It will also be built at an estimated cost of seven hundred and forty seven crores Rupees. 

    Annual electronic music festival Tomorrowland begins in Belgium

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 22nd July 2016 one of the biggest electronic music festivals Tomorrowland started in Boom, Belgium.

    The year 2016 also marks Tomorrowland 10th edition.

    However, more than 350000 tickets for the festival were sold out in an hour of their opening in February 2016.

    Know About Tomorrowland – 

    • Electronic music festival Tomorrowland is one of the biggest electronic music festivals held in the world.

    • On 14th August 2005, the first edition of the festival took place, which was organised by ID&T Belgium.

    Scientists to undertake field trials of Oil-degrading bacteria in - Kochi

    Among Important National Current Affairs, scientists have finally planned to undertake field trials of three new strains of oil-degrading bacteria in Kochi, Kerala. 

    However, laboratory tests of these new strains which were conducted earlier were successful. The field trials will be finally conducted by the Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute of Plant Sciences (MBGIPS), Kozhikode and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). 

    Also the study will pave the way for the development of bioremediation agents to clean up petroleum pollutants from the environment.

    Which player becomes 1st Indian to set world record in Jr Athletics Championship - Neeraj Chopra

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who is just 18 years old has created history by becoming first Indian Junior athlete to create a World Record in Junior Athletics Championship. 

    By throwing javelin at a record distance of 86.48 m in his second attempt in the IAAF, he achieved this feat under-20 World Athletics Championship held in Bydgoszcz, Poland. 

    Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal, whereas South African Johan Grobler (80.59m) won the silver medal and Anderson Peters (79.65m) of Granada won the bronze medal.
