    Blue Mormon was declared as State butterfly by which state - Maharashtra

    On 23rd June 2015, Blue Mormon was declared as State butterfly by Maharashtra Government. Blue Mormon is also known as Papilio polymnestor. After southern birdwing, Blue Mormon is second largest butterfly found in India.

    Blue Mormon is a beautiful butterfly and it carries bright blue spots on wings and red spot on body. 

    Do You Know : 

    After declaring Blue Mormon as state butterfly, Maharashtra became India's first state to have a State butterfly.

    Name of the mobile application launched to aid National Mission for Clean Ganga - Bhuvan Ganga Mobile Application

    On 23rd June 2015, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti launched Bhuvan Ganga mobile application and a web portal to aid National Mission for Clean Ganga as this app will allow people to upload pictures of pollution sources of river Ganga for further action by the concerned authorities. 

    This app was launched after MoU was signed between National Mission for Clean Ganga and the National Remote Sensing Centre of ISRO.

    James Horner died, he was - Titanic composer

    On 23rd June 2015, James Horner passed away. He was two time Oscar winning composer. He died in a plane crash in California, United States at the age of 61.

    He also composed the movies like  Avatar and Titanic, he had 95 soundtracks and 158 composes. Apart from Oscars he was honoured with Golden Globe Awards, Satellite Awards, Saturn Awards.

    Student satellite TASSAT project was launched by - Kerala's Trinity College of Engineering

    Trinity Adrak Student Satellite (TASSAT) building project was launched by Trinity College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It completion is scheduled for 2018.

    Al Adrak which is an Oman based company has funded this initiative.  

    Under this project CubeSats and NanoSats will be built at a regular pace. CubeSats is a small satellite and its mass is less than 1.33 Kg and has a volume of 1 litre. It is created using off the shelf materials while NanoSats has a mass ratio between 1 to 10 Kg.

    Which zoo was renamed after last Nawab Wajid Ali Shah - Lucknow Zoo

    On 23rd June 2015,  Uttar Pradesh Government renamed Lucknow Prani Udyan as Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Prani Udyan, Lucknow. Lucknow Prani Udyan is popular with the name of Lucknow zoo. Nawab Wajid Ali Shah was the last Nawab of Oudh or Avadh. Under him province was annexed by the British under the policy of Doctrine of Lapse in 1856 and then later he was exiled to Matia Birj in Bengal. This zoo was established in 1921 and then it was named as Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens which was later renamed as Lucknow Prani Udyan on 4th June 2001.

    IPO norms were relaxed by SEBI for - Technological start-ups

    Among the Important Financial Current Affairs, On 23rd June 2015, SEBI relaxed the norms for technological start-ups to raise funds from the capital market while easing the norms for issuance of Initial Public Offering (IPO) by companies.

    It reduced the post-listing lock-in period for tech start-up promoters to six months, instead of three years for other IPOs. 

    Moreover, the exchanges will have a separate platform for the start-ups that is Institutional Trading Platform (ITP) and it will facilitate capital raising as well for start-ups. This platform is accessible to companies which are intensive in their use of technology, information technology, intellectual property, data analytics, bio-technology and nano-technology.

    "Red Tape to Red Carpet... and then some" is written by - Gina Rinehart

    On 23rd June 2015, Book titled "Red Tape to Red Carpet... and then some" was released. This book is authored by Gina Rinehart, who is Chairperson of the Australian mining company Hancock Prospecting Group. Book is about industry of Red Tape which thrives on doubt and Red Carpet which is built on trust.

    Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi released the book and at that time Australian Minister for trade and investment, Andrew Robb, and former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating were also present. 

    Who was appointed as Kerala's Ayurveda brand ambassador - Steffi Graf

    On 23rd June 2015, Tennis legend Steffi Graf was appointed as Ayurveda brand ambassador by Kerala government to promote Kerala's tourism departments Visit Kerala Scheme. As per Chief Minister Oommen Chandy this decision was taken by state Cabinet. 

    Steffi Graf is former World number one player and has won 22 Grand slam single titles. She is a player of Germany.

    Who has been chosen for VK Krishna Menon Award 2015 - UK-based philanthropist Benni Joseph Mavelil

    Among the Important Awards, On 21st June 2015, UK-based philanthropist Benni Joseph Mavelil was selected for VK Krishna Menon Award. He was chosen for his outstanding professional and altruistic achievements, contributions and services to the community and wider multicultural society. 

    Basically he is from Koodalloor, Kerala but working in UK for over a decade now. He is a graduate from St. Stephens College of Delhi. He is also President of UK Knanaya Catholic Community. 

    V K Krishna Menon Award :

    VK Krishna Menon award is given to outstanding Indian patriots who served in the Diaspora and have been distinguished in various fields including science, literature, business, politics, diplomacy and philanthropy. It was established in 2006.
